Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

*** Caution - Rumour Mill content***

I was told today that 7 out of the 29 dead had already received the vaccine and that information is circulating on social media leading to an increasing level of people who would not get vaccinated if offered one.

Anyone heard that or can confirm or dispel it. Also, what is the general view of the vaccine among the Khmers - are they keen or reluctant to get it?

I had been having mutual English/Khmer language lessons with a monk at the pagoda before this got out of hand. He is very keen for me to get vaccinated. Also said he can't get it because he has allergies. Also I think some locals see us as a bigger risk for some reason. When I had to access the outside wall of my building a few weeks ago, it was easiest to do this through my neighbour's window. I had a Khmer neighbour from my alley helping*. My E4 neighbour gave me a mask to wear but for some reason the same wasn't required of the alley neighbour.

*by helping, I mean he was doing the work and I was the runner.

It doesn't tell me anything Dr. Watson, I do not know it for a fact and therefore do not infer anything from it. It is just a rumour that I heard which I am trying to confirm or dispel. If it is true it could be very damaging for vaccine uptake rates.

It is interesting that your Khmer friends don't want it. Is that any vaccine or just the Chinese one? If any vaccine, what's the basis for this reluctance?

Thanks for the hyperbole WHO, "National tragedy and "consequences will be catastrophic" are not very helpful at this juncture.

What would be helpful is a few million doses of vaccine and the vaccination process being administered by the WHO on the basis of clinical need and not on who the government thinks is most important.

So I agree with the statement about hyperbole. It would have been nicer for the WHO (months ago) to tell folks the truth about the Chinese Vaccines. That they haven't adhered to established standards and there is no reason for anyone to believe these vaccines actually work. Don't share the trial data - don't call it a vaccine. Don't tell people what the potential side effects are - don't call it a vaccine. Don't conduct and share follow up studies - don't call it a vaccine.

The WHO has been shown to be little more than a puppet for the Chinese Communist Party. From supposedly "intelligent" people pretending Taiwan doesn't exist, to encouraging travel to/from China continue when the pandemic started, to delaying calling it a pandemic, to calling this COVID as opposed to Wuhan Virus (notice its the UK variant, the South Africa variant, the Brazil variant), to the WHO refusing to hold vaccine development to established international standards. The WHO has helped to kill millions by being a mouthpiece and accomplice of the Chinese Communist Party.

Where did all these conspiracy people come from?
They should go home and root out the evil doers.

I think it's the fact the vaccine is chinese which is making people reluctant to get it, and that's all that's available for anyone under 60
