Re: Information on Coronavirus in Cambodia from 8 March 2020
Cambodia joins rest of the World: 31 more COVID-19 cases in 1 day. Total now 84
ALTHOUGH I HAVE TO SAY: ISN'T IT A BIT STRANGE ALMOST ALL OF THE FRENCH TOURIST GROUP SEEM TO BE INFECTED?
The press release:
Thirty-one (31) new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed by the Pasteur Institute Cambodia this evening, according to a press release of the Ministry of Health.
This is the highest number of new confirmed cases reported in a single day in Cambodia, bringing the tally to 84.
The 29 French nationals, of them 17 women, and the other two tested positive yesterday are among the 36 French tourists who arrived in Preah Sihanouk province on Mar. 18 and planned to leave the coastal province on Mar. 21, while the two Cambodian men are their guides.
They have been now put under quarantine in a hotel in Sihanoukville, Preah Sihanouk province.
Among the 84 COVID-19 confirmed cases (22 women), there are 33 Cambodians, 3 British, 33 French, a Canadian, a Belgian, 12 Malaysians, and a Chinese.
The Chinese infected man had already recovered and returned to his home country, while one of the three infected British cases - a 65-year-old woman - was discharged from the hospital today after tested negative twice.
Since the first case detected in Preah Sihanouk province in late January, the COVID-19 pandemic has now hit 13 provinces and capital of Cambodia.

French COVID-19 patient airlifted to Phnom Penh
One of the two French tourists tested positive for COVID-19 in Preah Sihanouk province was airlifted to a Phnom Penh hospital because he has a lung disease, according to a health department official.
Two French tourists aged 67 and 80 who arrived in Sihanoukville on March 18 have been quarantined after being tested positive for the virus on Saturday night.
Sechou Sethychot, deputy director of the provincial health department, said today the 67-year-old French man was sent to a Phnom Penh hospital today for treatment.
“One of the two Frenchmen had a history of lung disease before he was infected with COVID-19,” he said. “His health condition seems serious.”
“We have contacted the French embassy and the Ministry of Health. They allowed him to be transferred by helicopter to Phnom Penh,” he added.
Dr Sethychot said the health of the 80-year-old man is normal as of today and is being given medical treatment at the provincial referral hospital.

Going to get a lot worse. That is what happens in countries that did not take it seriously...
Re: Information on Coronavirus in Cambodia from 8 March 2020
Agreed.... shame the Chinese kept it a secret for 2 months really. And the WHO just took everything they were being told by the Chinese as gospel and that’s just unbelievable.

“mounting anecdotal evidence indicates that lost or reduced sense of smell and loss of taste are significant symptoms associated with Covid-19, and that they have been seen in patients who ultimately tested positive with no other symptoms.”

Khmer Times lashes out at Ministry of Health
A few excerpts from the article:
Its handling of the current COVID-19 Pandemic is appalling in many aspects. Chief among these is the late evening or night release of a statement confirming the number of victims, incomplete at that. When released finally, after 9pm or even at 11pm, the information is not complete, such as lacking in travel history, the condition of the infected victims, their age and gender.
[...]
Another example is a Cambodian tracked down for being in close proximity with a COVID-19 positive patient in the province. Instead of bringing the patient in for testing, the officials concerned merely told the patient to go for testing. The next day that person, together with his family of seven, left for the city and got under the radar again, thus making it all the more difficult as he has to be tracked down again. By that time, one shudders as to whether he is positive, how many has been in close proximity with him and for how long.
[...]
that is that the Government and the authorities are trying to achieve – panic.

That's pretty common for them whenever it's an "Editorial" article.Username Taken wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 12:58 pm ^^^ Strange, that particular article fails to name the reporter. Yet, three other random KT articles that I opened all named the reporter or said article.
