3 cases of uk variant

but 2 peacekeepers
and 23 related to the chinese quarantine dodgers, presumably all a related strain

does not compute

they must have found between 1-3 cases of uk variant while testing people as part of the contact tracing
and it must have come from somewhere other than the quarantine dodgers as it's a different strain

.

Possiblity if they check passports that someone had at sometime visited the UK. But it's possible that they came across a carrier of the strain. So many variables to actually trace for sure.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

COVID-19: 25 New Infections Detected, including UK Variant Cases
AKP Phnom Penh, February 23, 2021 --

Twenty-five (25) new positive cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) have been reported in Cambodia this morning, of which 3 are of UK variant (SARS-Cov-2 UK Variant 20l/501Y.V1, B.1.1.7), pointed out a press release of the Ministry of Health.

According to the source, 23 of the new cases are connected to the Feb. 20 Community Event, and the rest two are passengers from abroad.

The 23 locally transmitted cases include 20 Chinese, 2 Cambodian, and 1 Vietnamese nationals aged between 20 and 44 years old.

The two passengers are Cambodian peacekeepers coming from their mission in Africa and arriving in Cambodia on Feb. 21. They have been admitted to the Training Centre for Multinational Peacekeeping Forces in Kampong Speu province.

The other 117 passengers on the same flight with negative test results have been put under 14-day quarantine at the same training school.

And double-double check, with another confirmation of the presence of the new Covid 19 variant on Fresh News:

Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 23 – Cambodia's Ministry of Health warned Tuesday that the new COVID19 variant is vicious and spreads faster than the previous variants.

Cambodia reported three cases of COVID19 new variant on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Health’s press release dated 23 February 2021.

How do they know it's the UK variant? Who made the sequencing in here?

They don't do sequencing here as far as I know. That was done in the UK. It's why it's called the UK varient, because that's where it was discovered when they were sequencing it.

Tests are then adapted to make them able to identify if it's the same sequence (the UK varient).

It's already worldwide, not limited to the UK. This gene is well out of the bottle

The Pasteur Institute know what they are doing, they must be on the lookout for the new variants.

Cambodia to impose harsh measures for foreigners flouting COVID-19 rules
Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo HE has approved the deportation of any foreigners who violate the COVID-19 quarantine rules, escape treatment and refuse cooperation with authorities.
VNA Tuesday, February 23, 2021 15:40

Phnom Penh (VNA) - Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo HE has approved the deportation of any foreigners who violate the COVID-19 quarantine rules, escape treatment and refuse cooperation with authorities.

For foreigners, they will be deported from Cambodia and banned from re-entering the country, said a letter signed by HE on February 23. "For Cambodians, they will face the country's law."

The letter said any companies which ignore cooperation with the authorities in tracing suspicious cases will see their licences revoked and their businesses shut down.

The move was to strengthen efficiency in containing the spread of the COVID-19 in the community, it added.

The decision was made after two of four who escaped from quarantine at the Sokha Hotel, by bribing two security guards, are believed to have caused the current community outbreak with 99 positive cases recorded.

Cambodia on February 23 reported 25 new COVID-19 cases, raising the total number of infections in the country to 593, said a Ministry of Health (MoH) statement.

The new infections included 23 locally-transmitted cases, including three cases of the variant first found in Britain, and two imported cases, the statement said.

It said the two imported cases were found on Cambodian UN peacekeepers who returned to the country from the Central African Republic./.
