Information on Coronavirus / COVID-19 in Cambodia (Latest Updates December 2021)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Not much has been happening over the last year, why would it change now? Because of the mutations? Those didn't change much in other countries, despite all the doom predicted.

Face it, they accidentally tested someone positive. Probably an asymptomatic person because only an idiot would go for a test in Cambodia while being symptomatic. Once you test positive you're name is all over the news and the web.
The authorities responded, started lifting tiles, closed buildings, came up with a story about 4 Chinese doing a runner from quarantine, and they found 32 + 19 cases.

My guess is if they would have done the same two weeks ago they would have found the same result. You only see things when you look at them.

Covid is in Cambodia, and it has been and it is spreading. But it's at such a low level in the grand scheme of things it's no big thing. So far. And I don't see any reason why that would change because of this finding.

The spots identified are: N8 nightclub near the Olympic stadium, Casa Meridian, Le Gong Guan Hotel, City Comfort Hotel, The Bridge, The Point Service Apartments, Yi Lu Xian restaurant, 18E Mekong street, Pent House Apartment, Sky Line (Dumex), Somet Condominium, Residence L Olympic and Prince Plaza Centre.

A bulk of the 32 COVID-19 positive cases had lived or frequented these places. The four escapes from quarantine from Sokha had reportedly been hopping from one apartment to another.
Wait, the City Comfort Hotel is another quarantine hotel. Why would people from the Sokha outbreak be going there?

Three other Chinese nationals and the Chilean woman were also tested positive when they asked for a health certificate.
So all these people have been living in the Cambodia. Only tested because they had to travel. And the nice Chinese woman screwed 24 of her neighbors, too.

Scratch that theory that the Kingdom of Wonder is immune to the virus.

Health Ministry Urges the Public to Stop Fake News on COVID19 Found on Cambodia’s Bats
21/02/21 20:13

Phnom Penh (FN), Feb. 21 — Cambodia’s Ministry of Health has called on the public to stop spreading fake news on COVID19 found on bats in Cambodia in 2010.

Health Ministry Spokesperson Or Vandine said the ministry will hold a press conference “Clarification from Lab on COVID19” on 23 February 2021.

Or Vandine denied fake news, which said that COVID19 was found on bats in Cambodia by Pasteur Laboratory of Cambodia since 2010.

She clarified that the virus found on bats in Cambodia is not COVID19, just a similar virus.

“News about COVID19 found in bats is misleading and confusing. To counter misleading news, the ministry will hold a press conference to clarify this issue on 23 February at 9 am at the Ministry of Health,” she said.

As of 21 February 2021, Cambodia has reported 533 cases of COVID19 with 473 recoveries and no death.

I can just picture the press conference.... The minister will be wearing robes and, with a wave of his hand, announce...

"These are not the bats you are looking for"

It is safe*. It has been approved for export to the US from 2020. It only took 24 years since mad cow. :D

*as long as you don't eat a kilo a day with French fries and coleslaw.
