Enforced social distancing does work to slow the spread as computer models have shown. Slower spread, means more time for those infected to recover, leading to fewer infected at any given time. Simple quarantine where infected and not infected are living close together does little.

Europe as a whole instituted measures too late. After Italy was overwhelmed, everyone simply fled to the rest of Europe to spread the disease. Now nations are actually closing borders.

The USA is hoping not to explode into another Italy by slowing the spread. With the quarantines there isn’t 100,000 cases of coronavirus in the USA right now. But time will tell.

Overall quarantines to stop disease work well when there are only a few cases. Isolating remote villages in Africa, keeping Typhoid Mary in prison, etc.

Two more Malaysian nationals in Kep province have been confirmed with COVID-19 infection, according to H.E. Ms. Or Vandine, Secretary of State and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Health in a press conference here this morning.

Yesterday, three Malaysians in the same province, who attended a religious event in Malaysia, were detected with the deadly virus.

With the two new cases, the total number of confirmed cases in Cambodia rose to 35. Of them, there are 22 Cambodians, 3 British, 2 French, a Canadian, a Belgian, 5 Malaysians, and a Chinese who has already recovered.

All confirmed cases in Cambodia are imported cases, except the one in Siem Reap who was in direct contact with a Japanese infected man. Anyway, the Ministry of Health is working hard to prevent and contain the community transmission, underlined H.E. Ms. Or Vandine, calling for participation from all concerned institutions and the public.

Cambodian workers told not to leave Thailand amid Covid-19 fears
published : 18 Mar 2020 at 12:18
PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian embassy in Thailand has asked its migrant workers and students in the country not to leave for home during the upcoming Cambodian New Year as Covid-19 fears mount.

“For the upcoming Khmer New Year, our workers, students and vendors should cooperate with Thai authorities to prevent the Covid-19. If it is not necessary, you should not leave Thailand," the Khmer Times on Wednesday said, quoting the embassy statement.

The embassy said Cambodian migrant workers need to practice good hygiene to protect themselves from the virus infection.

Thailand confirmed 212 cases of Covid-19 infection.

There are about 2 million Cambodian migrant workers in Thailand both legal and illegal, according to the Ministry of Labour.

Cambodian Scholars Appeal to Public to Calm Down and Apply Preventive Measures
AKP Phnom Penh, March 18, 2020 --

COVID-19 detected cases in Cambodia saw a sharp increase this week, anyway Cambodian scholars have called on the public to remain calm and apply preventive measures as recommended by the Ministry of Health.

The only way to overcome this crisis is to work together, Dr. Chheang Vannarith, President of the Asian Vision Institute (AVI) shared his comments to AKP this morning.

"We need to prove the strength of humanity and the power of love. No one should be left behind in this fight against COVID-19. We need to take care of those who are infected or vulnerable to be infected. We need to ensure the safety and a sense of security for all,” he said.

“We need to support and motivate our medical staff who work around the clock to save people’s life. We need to protect ourselves and our community from being exposed to the virus. We should stay united and act calmly, such as avoiding buying panic," he underlined.

According to Dr. Chheang Vannarith, COVID-19 pandemic is testing the leadership and institutional capacity of the Cambodian government as well as the social capital and resilience of Cambodian people. The legitimacy of the government is at stake too.

As of this morning, the number of COVID-19 confirmed cases in the Kingdom rose to 35, of which 21 new cases were detected on Mar. 17 alone, and almost all the cases are imported ones.

"It needs to be cautious that although the community transmission has not yet serious in the country, according to what we have known, there is an increasing risk of having a spike of the number of infections in coming days or weeks. When the community transmission starts, it is more difficult to control and manage," Dr. Chheang Vannarith added.

Since early this week, the Royal Government has taken some concrete steps to contain and mitigate COVID-19 pandemic in the country such as forming an inter-ministerial committee to specifically deal with the disease and imposing travel restrictions and quarantine policy. Other measures include closing the schools, suspending religious gathering and the operations of dancing club, KTV and cinema, and boosting public awareness campaign on social distancing and maintaining personal and community hygiene.

It's all shutting down. The big ones are already closed. At least they got the obnoxious ones. Maybe we'll get lucky and Temple will burn down while it's closed. Those ass-hats and their blaring street speakers manage to decrease the enjoyment every other bar within a 1-2 block radius once the sun goes down.
Do you think the parents of baby boomers whined so much when the boomers started changing society? And yet the whiney ones like to call young people "snowflakes." Hmm...

Yeah it was pretty dead last night. Even the cart bars were quiet.

the loud annoying music on pub Street doesn't bother me because I rarely even walk down there unless I am cutting through.
