Indian Roti Seller Attacked and Robbed in Phnom Penh Street
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): On November 6, 2020, at 8:30 pm, an Indian man, a roti seller, was robbed by a gang of thugs on street 217, in front of Stueng Meanchey pagoda, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh.
The victim reported that before the incident, he was pushing his roti cart on street 217, making his way home, when he was set on by ten youths armed with sticks and rocks. They stole 380,000 riels, 100 eggs, and other items. Then, they ran away to escape.
After the incident, the victim filed a complaint at Stueng Meanchey police station. The victim speaks only a little Khmer, so the police told him to come back and file a complaint in the morning.

Poor fella must have been frightening experience, little help from the police
Are barangs allowed to do this type of work, I thought we weren't.

I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

How does one run away with eggs? I know it's a sad story but I can't help laughing at the thought of a bunch of skinny Khmer kids running away with some eggs.

Considering where the robbery took place, they probably just fled inside the pagoda

Attacked and robbed on a public street at 8:30pm. Poor guy. He's just trying to make a buck.
I hope the police get his eggs back intact.

No they never went through with that law change about preventing barangs from peforming simple jobs. However you unlike a khmer need all papers in order to do so.
More funny to me is that they even stole the eggs.

I'm not sure if it's the same guy, but there's a guy who sells roti from a cart around Tuol Sleng area. My kid often bought roti from him, and sometimes for me too. I felt like a total moron a week or so back when my kid told me the guy was Indian, I honestly had no idea and my kid looked at me like I was retarded. Such is life.
The Rotis are really nice, like a pancake with some chocolate Milo or whatever and an egg etc, they cost about 1500- 2000 Riel which is nothing, I feel sorry for the guy.

There are many Indian roti guys around. A bit like those guys who sell clothing out in the countryside (and city, but I think some of the clothing sellers are Sri Lankan).John Bingham wrote:I'm not sure if it's the same guy, but there's a guy who sells roti from a cart around Tuol Sleng area.
