Sihanoukville to begin road project
Voun Dara | Publication date 09 October 2019 | 23:22 ICT

The government will spend $200 million to improve Sihanoukville’s infrastructure. The eight-month project will involve the rebuilding of 34 streets with a total of more than 84km.

Pal Chandara, the secretary of state and spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, told The Post on Wednesday that the government had sufficient funds and teams would soon begin implementing the project step by step.

“We have enough funds but we are just waiting for the right time to begin the work as we want to ensure we rebuild the streets effectively and efficiently. It won’t be delayed for too long. Technical officers from relevant ministries are cooperating with provincial authorities on the project.

“We are rebuilding the streets in Sihanoukville because we want it to be a modern city. We have over $200 million, and technical teams will work to renovate the infrastructure,” he said.

Chandara said the streets would be rebuilt with 25cm-deep concrete and paved with 7cm of asphalt.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Hall spokesman Kheang Phearum said the work to reconstruct the 34 streets, with a total length of 84,505m, would be completed in about eight months.

“We are rebuilding the roads following the provincial master plan, with parks and pedestrian walkways. There will be some inconvenience to the public but we will try to cause as little disruption as possible. The road rebuilding will start in November,” he said.

Phearum said initial estimates made at the first meeting to discuss funding put the total cost much higher than $200 million. However, after a second meeting, it was realised that those estimates were inflated and the budget required would not be as high as feared.

Minister of Public Works and Transport Sun Chanthol gave further details on Friday at an event to promote the Road Care Mobile App – which allows people to report problems with the country’s roads directly to the ministry.

I guess there will be a separate App which will allow people to report problems with the sewer system and drainage after the nice new roads are completed .
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

The new PP SHK Highway should prove a reliable stretch later on.

In the meantime dumping bodies under should shave a tad off the costs of backfill & stones

Good of the UN's Director General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to say he will support more Chinese investment.
So now the Chinese heads of UN departments only support Chinese investment?
Haven't we got about enough PRC investments from their criminal sector? Do we need more?

Before the nay sayers jump on me for picking on the PRC persons just look at the recent additions to the statistics in the province.

Road rebuilding in Sihanoukville has already started, due to favorable weather conditions.

Companies begin street rebuilding in Preah Sihanouk
14 October 2019 | 23:14 ICT
Seven companies have begun rebuilding 34 streets in Sihanoukville, working round-the-clock to complete the task in eight months, with Prime Minister HE set to officiate at the ground-breaking ceremony at the end of this month.

Preah Sihanouk Provincial Hall spokesman Kheang Phearum said on Monday that the work to rebuild the 34 streets, estimated at more than $200 million, started on Sunday.

“Seven firms are responsible for this eight-month project. The official ground-breaking ceremony will be held at the end of October and be presided over by Prime Minister HE,” he said.

Phearum said the government, through relevant ministries and the Preah Sihanouk provincial administration, is rebuilding flood-damaged street infrastructure.

He said the 34 streets, with a total length of more than 84km, would be rebuilt in Sihanoukville and Preah Sihanouk province’s Prey Nop district.

So that will mean another couple of years, at least, with the roads as a total s***fight.
Another nail, rather than a fix?

I wonder if they will "tax" the adjacent Chinese business owners as the works proceed, to help finance them, like they commonly do everywhere else.
