Sihanoukville is a Mess; Authorities React

Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

New Coastal Road for Sihanoukville
Image
Cambodia News, (Sihanouk Ville): People are very surprised after seeing the land excavation works in the sea near the dragon tail on the afternoon 20 January 2021, but according to the confirmation of Mr. Kheang Phearom, the speaker of Sihanoukville, this is further development of the city and the result of building a new coastal road.

He continued that the new road will be 1034 meters long, and the road building project is studying thoroughly the impact of the works on the environment. The government of Cambodia also supports this project and hopes that this new road will make it easy for citizens to travel through, and will attract more tourists and international visitors to Sihanoukville.

What a complete load of shit, they’ve just redone the road all the way from the golden lion roundabout to Otres 2, its a wide road with footpaths n everything, this extra bit of road would barely need to be used

Yeah, they'll be studying it until they realize they've created a septic lagoon and totally fucked up the coast.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

That’s what I was thinking, it’s a roundabout way to acquire beach front land/property without having to buy out or evict the current owners / tenants, just create new land in front of the existing.

This new "road" is connecting Sokha Beach and Seredipity Beach.
There's been a plan for a footpath / bicycle road since 2010 or so but who could guess they would put it in the sea!
Totally ruining this beautiful stretch of rocky shoreline.
There's also a "protected" reef just some 50 meters out from land...
