Immigration Assist Homeless Japanese Man
Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): After receiving the information from social media that a homeless Japanese man was living in Wat Botum park, Lieutenant Sor Thet, the deputy commissioner and police Commissioner of Phnom Penh, ordered the immigration authorities to search for him.
A Japanese man, GEN KUBOTA, 41 years old, was found at Wat Botum park, on February 15, 2021. After questioning and the Covid-19 test, on February 16, 2021, at 8:30 am, the police sent the man to the Japanese Embassy, who will take care of the matter.
The Japanese man came to Cambodia on June 18, 2020, through Phnom Penh International Airport. He said that he had lost his passport and his visa was expired; he didn't have money to renew it.

Immigration Detention Centre must be full, these sort normally get sent straight there to await deportation.

Maybe the Japanese are more kind and generous to their fellow citizens?
A model for other countries to emulate?

Nice, I can easily see how you can shame the Japanese embassy into action in such a case.
Re: Immigration Assist Homeless Japanese Man
The Japanese man came to Cambodia on June 18, 2020,
He arrived two week before me, which means he went through all the Covid-19 tests, medical insurance, visa requirements and a $3000 deposit.
He went to a lot of effort and expense getting here so I am surprised he is now homeless, broke and without a visa or a passport. Something went badly wrong for this guy.

Re: Immigration Assist Homeless Japanese Man
Well, sure Cambodia would exist, but many highways and bridges wouldn't be there without their help. And as far as the train system goes, I would recommend a high speed rail system between The Penh and Kep, maybe 320 km/hr or even 160 km/hr, but not now, there's no real incentive for that yet. I often wonder how, if history had gone differently, Cambodia would look as part of the Japanese Empire. Efficient, anyway.

Many Japanese in the same situation in the past have been taken directly to the IDC, not to the Embassy. The fact is that he is still an illegal overstayer, so unless the Japanese Embassy are going to facilitate payment of his overstay fines and purchase him a new Visa EOS, or Exit Visa and flight ticket, he is eventually going to be deported.

OK that guy was a fast talker or a VIP overstayer rather than the ordinary unsavory type of overstay dude.PSD-Kiwi wrote: ↑Wed Feb 17, 2021 12:23 pmMany Japanese in the same situation in the past have been taken directly to the IDC, not to the Embassy.
