Illegal plantation of 12,000 marijuana plants discovered in Takeo

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

the word canvas derives from cannabis- USD are printed on it.
hilltribes still use it for clothing- Americans great grandparents used it for hard wearing clothing mixed with cotton and linen.
it was the holy anointing oil spoken of in the bible as chrysm.

there was a guy here a few years ago who was a cannabis advocate- roycrystalthc or some such username.

i heard later that he was a cancer victim and carked it- but he was a pretty fearless advocate of making this and industry in Cambodia.

i think this would be the single most easily accomplished thing that the gov here could do to make money.
Herbal medicine here is effective and well known in rural areas.
there are many other plants worthy of attention here.
there has been some recent legislation regarding herbalists that is largely restrictive, but for sure- there are many botanicals commonly used that really work.
here is one that my GF finds better than the many pharmaceuticals she is obliged to take for chronic asthma:

Cannabis has been used as a means of treating the symptoms of asthma for millennia, in various medicinal traditions including those of ancient India and China.
Lots of info here on asthma treatment with cannabis

Judging by your Christmas tree, you could get a job as a consultant.

Many moons ago my father in law volunteered to grow some plants for me at the Srok. After about 4 - 6 weeks, I went out to see how he was getting on. He was proudly showing me about 30 young plants growing in a straight line in the middle of the vacant block. Many of the plants were tall and spindly, while others were short and squat. I pointed out to him that the tall ones were probably male and must be removed.
He wouldn't have a bar of that. He decided that if I didn't want the tall ones, he would just grow them and feed them to the cows.
Final product was poor quality bush buds.

if fully legalized, there would be a large tourist market and a vast improvement in local cultivars.
flb, agree 100%, but the tobacco industry offers them a huge boon plus 500%

What will they choose?

they will choose what pays the most. but i think growers would be aggregated under large corporate enterprises conforming to a suitable legislative regime.
they will middle the production and extract.
extension services such as genetics would flow down from the upstream exporter who would handle extraction and qc- obviously payments to contract growers would be tied to the desired molecules at the extraction point.
no one is going to export straw- the market wants concentrates; some strains today have more than 20% thc if that is what the market wants.
i think the tasmanian model for poppy to be excellent if only a medical licensed grow was permitted.
