Anti-Trafficking Cop, Rebuffed at KTV, Pulls Gun, Sues for Defamation

An anti-trafficking police officer is under investigation after allegedly asking a KTV worker to sleep with him, getting rebuffed, punching the KTV’s owner and guards, pulling out his gun, then suing the owner’s son for posting video of the incident.

The Phnom Penh-based officer, Hak Ly, visited the Prey Veng province KTV on Friday night before turning violent after midnight, according to police and the KTV owner.

Long Bunthoeun, Prey Veng’s Pea Reang district police chief, said Ly had injured the owner of the local establishment.

“We have already questioned the owner of the KTV. She has a swollen neck,” Bunthoeun said. “Authorities are working on this case. There was violence.”

Keo Thea, chief of the Phnom Penh Municipal Police’s anti-human trafficking and juvenile protection office, said that Ly was an anti-human trafficking officer in the capital.

The owner of the KTV, Lor Sarom, 43, said military police had questioned her over the incident for about four hours on Monday.

Ly had arrived with four others to drink and sing karaoke with some of her female staff, Sarom said.

He then asked one of the women to sleep with him, saying he had spent a lot of money at the KTV for her, according to Sarom.

When she refused, saying she never goes home with anyone, “he kicked my chairs, table and refrigerator … the women were crying,” Sarom said.

“He was violent against me, punching my back and neck … he punched my security guards five times,” she said.

“When he got into the car, I thought it was finished … and asked the security guards to be quiet,” Sarom said. “But after he got in the car he pulled out his gun and opened the window and pointed it at me and said, ‘I have the right to shoot you to death and shut your restaurant … and put you in jail.’ I was shaking when I saw the gun.”

It says he sues for defamation after a video was posted, is that video somewhere out there or gone?

There was one guy at the anti-trafficking office that was giving me and missus a hard time getting marriage approval. Apparently he didn’t get enough of his share of tea money. I’m wondering if it’s the same guy.

Exactly why does one need to carry a gun to a KTV in the first place?

I’m no fan of Karaoke, anyway. Most participants sound like they’re murdering the songs, so maybe it’s to put the listener out of their misery?

But yet again, an example of someone with a gun, not quite having the practical, emotional or rational thought to do so.

"But yet again, an example of someone with a gun, not quite having the practical, emotional or rational thought to do so." Probably covers about 90% of the gun-owning/carrying population in the Kingdom of Blunder (should be the country's real motto). Imagine the number of similar cases that happen every day that do not make the news.

“I have seen that [the son] posted footage of myself that impacts my honor heavily, so I am filing a lawsuit … for defamation,”
Christ almighty.........even the next day, after sobering up, he still has the balls to file a lawsuit?!?

So, it's the posted footage that impacts his honor......not his actions in the posted footage?

The unadulterated gall.....I've got to see a picture of this guy.

Whilst not 100% across the board......this country does have an issue with the way males are raised in this society......waaaaay too much permissive parenting when it comes to boys in Cambodia.

I love Karaoke, you don't need to be good you just need to have a good time!
This kind of behaviour is a common with KTV's & has more to do with Peacock syndrome; displaying your feathers. Singing badly only results in a few giggles followed by an uncomfortable silence  Rejection is totally different

Simple logic, really...

Lawyer: Your honor, my client has done this numerous times, and it never affected his reputation. The only difference this time is that it was filmed, so clearly it's the video that has done harm to his reputation. We rest our case.

Judge:

Thank you Mr Mackevili for your admission on your clients behalf of their prior criminal conduct of a similar nature, I shall be referring your admission to the prosecuting authorities for further action.

As it is a requirement to have a good reputation before you it can be defamed, and given your admission that your client serially commits this crime, he cannot possibly have a reputation capable of being traduced. Case dismissed.

(at which point the client pulled out his gun - again - and shot his lawyer)

There should be a pill for sexual frustration. Strong enough to take the edge off.

Might actually lead to a significant drop in crimes like the above, if taking one wasn't too taboo.
