Houses and Restaurants at Chroy Chongva district have been reshuffled

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Phnom Penh: On June 22, 2016,Chroy Chongva authority has taken an action over reshuffling construction buildings, restaurants and other houses, 13 locations, built illegally along the river.

The action was leaded by Mr Huy Sarun, a district deputy governor under a coordination of Mr Kol Bon, a Municipal Court deputy prosecutor.

Mr Huy Sarun told that, this occurred after those construction owners have not followed the proclamation that they have to move out from those locations where can impact to city aesthetics and scare visitors nearby.

It should be confirmed that, at Chroy Congva district, there are 163 restaurants , including with other 6 locations found to be built illegally.

"they have to move out from those locations where can impact to city aesthetics and scare visitors nearby."

I have driven past that area many times and never experienced any fear. Even stranger is this sudden interest in aesthetics. There's a lot of construction in that area, most of it appears to be condominiums and gated communities. Does anyone know what's really going on? I have in mind the Prek Leap area of Chroy Chongva, is that wrong?

@table42, I'm sure you remember what the riverside opposite Phnom Penh looked like around ten years ago. And even before that when those riverside houses extended quite a long way downstream toward the river junction.
I imagine that this latest cleanup is just the next phase of the plan. At Prek Leap, there's a small road that runs parallel with the river. There are a lot of small restaurants and guest houses that have sitting areas that extend over the river bank.

it looked much better 10 years, even 8 years ago when Maxine's was there and all the fishermen tied up on the shore

For me PP is not longer the city worth living in, to busy, trying to be something it can never be with all their modern satellite cites, empty high rises that no one can afford to live in which are noting more than a way to wash money, The bubble will soon BURST and blood will run

I think they are talking about the Mekong side a few KM up, but this is the view from the Chruoy Changva bridge of the peninsula north of the bridge in August 2005:

And on the other bank (city side):

Most of those were knocked down to build the new bridge. Maxine's and the rest of the stretch south of the bridge had to make way for the new quay. The floating village had to move as it would have spoiled the view from Sokha Hotel, and besides they were Yuons anyway.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
