In African shitholes, when the police pull your vehicle over the will hop right in the back so you can't drive off and tell you that you must go to the station to pay if you're not willing to give them anything.

It will definitely be interesting to see if the changes (if any) take place everywhere in exactly the same way. Although there are always complaints about the SHV traffic police, I personally have had about the same experience as Jamie. Have a license, wear a helmet, lights off, don't drive like an ass, and it seems to be fine.

I'm especially curious about those with motos that have no plates here. As previously stated it must be at least half(including myself). I can't imagine that many Khmers will be rushing out to put plates on their motos as it can't be cheap to do.

The police here all of a sudden stopping those with plates, and checking and referencing paperwork, and loading plate-less motos in the backs of trucks sounds like a lot more work. Currently waiting in a chair in the shade for singlet wearing barangs to pass, seems to be the mo. That would be a pretty drastic change.

I've sat at a bar and watched the police pull Moto over. The majority were Khmer.

They all checked the rear for plates but didn't take the Moto away if the plate was absent. I asked a Khmer what they were saying and she said they'll have to get it plated soon.

The only people who kicked off were Barang. Angry angry is never advisable against any police anywhere in the world. Why do it here?

I saw an amusing one when I was at the Samudera - the cops had managed to hide behind the traffic and popped out on two youths on a moto. There was a sharp stop and an awkward three-point turn in traffic as they made their escape. Neither cop had a baton, so if you can stay out of arm's reach you're good.

Just yesterday I say three Khmers on one moto dodge a cop that had sprinted pretty quickly across the whole street, to the opposite side. He got there just in time to unintentionally high five the passenger on the back who had his "this moto is turning/not stopping stiff arm out." He had a classic irritated, I don't get paid enough for this, look on his face. Kinda felt bad for him.

This place is pretty small though, I would bet any barang pulling this would be putting a bit of a target on themselves, as they're probably more recognizable.

Hahaha. Unfortunately it had a lot less style to it. Admittedly, this guy in the video was a lot cooler.

haha thats the other thing that crossed my mind, im covered in tattoos and easily recognizable, for the same reason i dont get pulled over much (becuase they know they wont get money out of me) it could have the opposite effect if i was to do a runner, id have them pulling me over everytime trying to book me!

I was once hit by a Khmer police baton.
I had bought a new air blade in PP but wanted it plated in SHV so while still in town, I was aware to be careful not to be stoped by police as they would confiscate the bike till I sorted licensing (they were enforcing at the time).
Made the mistake to turn on Monivong from Russian bd and of course here were the coppers.
I was stoped me and directed to where their boss was standing, which I did at a faster pace than I should, just to abruptly turn left, inches short of the sidewalk... That worked but the cop had the time to launch a good hit on my shoulder...
After that I did a city race to my hotel and was paranoid for a few days...
