US Hostel Owner Convicted of Making Child Porn in Cambodia
Re: US Hostel Owner Convicted of Making Child Porn in Cambod
Both counts were "attempted" acts only? Not even convicted of making or possessing child pornography as stated in the thread title?Jason Jayavarman was convicted by a federal jury on a single count of attempted sexual exploitation of children and a single count of attempted travel with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Audrey Renschen.
The cited video/picture evidence must not be very convincing.

I find that amount of hush-money hard to believe. In 1992, maybe. This guys is obviously a total creep. Thank goodness pedos feel the need to capture their acts on video, or else they would rarely get caught and punished.Jayavarman told Alex Banks that he wouldn’t have any problems with the
police in Cambodia. If they were to stop him or question him, Jayavarman told
Alex Banks to give them $10 and they will go away.

It's not a name in Cambodia, it's an honorific title that kings took in ancient times.General Mackevili wrote:The thing I find most odd is his name. Either Jason Jayavarman is Cambodian or the weirdo changed his name.

I figured it might have been Indian... But yeah, I suppose he might be Khmerican and changed his name or something. Weird...

The Cambodia Daily says he's Khmerican.
Re: US Hostel Owner Convicted of Making Child Porn in Cambod
Being Khmer by birth, if he had not recorded his actions, and not told others about his exploits............he might never have been caught.
I guess these guys are compelled to record their activities so that they can trade with others to feed their addiction........but that is how they convict themselves.
Never speak to the police, except to say that you want an attorney and to ask if you are being detained.

Re: US Hostel Owner Convicted of Making Child Porn in Cambod
The trial brief I linked to above is actually pretty interesting, a bit sickening.
It appears that they did not call the girl as a witness.
They knew who she was I think because he identified her, as he had a multi-year relationship with her, and he knew where to find her, and he actually tried to have a fixer in Cambodia bribe her to say she was over 18 or forge a birth certificate to say she was over 18 when they had sex.
Stupidly (that's the theme here) he had those conversations with his fixer from jail on a recorded line. I believe they were then introduced against him.
It's also worth noting that during his conversations with the undercover agent, he advised the guy to remove his sex memory card from his camera after visiting Cambodia, insert a replacement memory card, then hide the sex memory card in his back pocket or in his wallet.
Now, I'm not giving advice to pedophiles here (I seem to say that a lot), but I have been flagged for secondary inspection three times entering the US, and on all three occasions they went through my wallet. On 2 of the 3 occasions they asked me to empty my pockets (on the third occasion I just emptied them voluntarily). CBP officers like to look at your wallet and "pocket litter" for tidbits of personal information, as people tend to keep stuff that's important to them in their pockets and in their wallets. And if they find a camera memory card in your pocket or wallet, that may raise suspicion, because it's unusual for them to be kept there, they're usually inside cameras or camera cases.
So if you wanted to hide anything from CBP, you are much better off just tossing it in your pile of clothes in your luggage, as in my experience they just do a cursory inspection of your clothes feeling around for large blocks of drugs and maybe pineapples. But pockets and wallets are not a good place to keep stuff you don't want CBP to look at.
Anyway, here's an article on "pocket litter" and the tendency of criminals to carry incriminating information in their pockets:

I must say, I find reading your posts, as the above, fascinating and on par with a good documentary. Your obvious skills at 'Sniffing Out' fine background details is something quite impressive.Cam Nivag wrote:The trial brief I linked to above is actually pretty interesting, a bit sickening.

I was initially concerned about making this post, as it might result in you disclosing what I had for breakfast, the name of next doors cat or indeed the name of the old woman, stood, in the rain at the bus stop opposite me office window and the fact that she is really called Lidya and is a 67 year old, Russian sleeper.
Please keep the additional, valuable, background detail flowing, much appreciated.
