Holland America Cruise Ship to Dock at Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Maybe a good idea to switch off those ACs in places with lots of people such as airports, even on planes if they believe that the virus dont like the cold. I'd risk sweating my arse off if it helped!

Do they know how to detect the virus in Japan? Or are they trying to humiliate someone?

They could be wondering around unaware of what's going on if they don't keep up to date like us on CEO as when they left the ship nobody was infected so how would they know

When I took a flight (AirAsia) from BKK to PNH 10 days ago, the Airline in BKK checked my passport for stamps in/out China too.
Won't be easy!
No, people are not waiting for the 'competent authorities' to take action, and they make their own arrangements, and are able to do so:

Translated:
Again, several passengers flew from cruise ship Westerdam to the Netherlands. They arrived early this morning from Singapore to Schiphol, reports Hart van Nederland. Later today another flight with cruise passengers will arrive at the airport.

"We left the hotel on our own yesterday," says one of the passengers. "It was very exciting, but in the end the return journey went very smoothly. It was a relief when we touched the Dutch soil, finally home. "

I guess Cambodia will lose all the goodwill build up because of this.

Maybe this is so easy because Hong Kong doesn't stamp your passport but instead hands over a card, so if you visit Hong Kong there's no trace in your passport.

Cambodia’s carelessness over coronavirus could bring disaster
When passengers from the MS Westerdam disembarked in Sihanoukville, Cambodia on Valentine’s Day last week, it was smiles and handshakes all around, as Prime minister HE greeted them with roses. Protective masks were nowhere to be seen. Not only did the PM not wear one, his bodyguards ordered people wearing masks to take them off. The next day, the US ambassador to Cambodia, W. Patrick Murphy, who brought his own family to greet the passengers streaming off the ship, also went maskless.

When the Westerdam docked in Sihanoukville, the Cambodian government and the cruise operator deemed the vessel virus-free. But the declaration appears to have been premature. Only 20 of the 2,257 on board were tested for the virus before disembarking, and that was because they had reported themselves to the ship’s medical staff with various ailments. The 83 year old American woman who twice tested positive after travelling on to Malaysia was not among those 20.

Many health experts urge people who have been in contact with coronavirus patients to self-quarantine for 14 days, to avoid danger of contagion. But yesterday, HE directed officials in Phnom Penh to treat passengers from the Westerdam to a sightseeing jaunt.

“To tour the city is better than staying in rooms or at the hotel feeling bored or scared,” said a post on HE’s Facebook page.

There is widespread scepticism of the government’s contention that only one person in Cambodia has tested positive for the virus, a Chinese citizen who has since returned home.

Kammekor wrote: Mon Feb 17, 2020 9:58 am I think the question is: were they infected when quarantined, or did they become symptomatic while quarantined? AFAIK they only tested the symptomatic ones, and nearly 30% of the people tested has shown positive.

On the other hand, if I were locked on the ship I would probably be symptomatic to, if not because of the virus it would be because of the anxiety.
The last update was that more and more passengers are testing positive every day, which would indicate the condition is spreading on the ship.
