World news, this morning
"There have been regular health checks for all passengers on board the Westerdam, and there have been no cases so far."

Facebook, passenger, midday
Out of muesli in the #Westerdam buffet yet somehow passengers remain upbeat.
("buffet" ffs)

World news, tonight
"Cambodian authorities said on Thursday that at least 20 passengers of the Westerdam cruise ship who have been ill "
" Out of muesli " OMG what a disaster, wait until they get to Shitesville, safer staying on the ship with just turnip soup

Don't worry, a Cambodian government working group is on the case! Nothing to fear.

"Pol Maj Gen Chuon Narin, a Preah Sihanouk provincial police, said that a government working group is aboard the ship to give medical checks to the more than 2,200 passengers and crew before they are allowed to disembark".

Until I see photos of the team wearing full protective clothing and masks my thoughts go out to the members of this team and their families, friends, neighbors....

Its the people who are carrying the virus and spreading it but yet to show signs of illness that will be hard to detect.

I guess many will stay in Phnom Penh while waiting for their flight home. Oops!!!!!!!

He knows who butters his bread;
In sickness and health, Cambodia kowtows to China
Prime Minister HE praised by Beijing for his comparatively lax handling of the coronavirus outbreak
Cambodian leader HE is apparently not worried about the possibility of the deadly and fast-spreading coronavirus killing anyone in his Southeast Asian nation. But he is clearly concerned about maintaining healthy diplomatic and economic relations with China.

On February 13, his government allowed over 2,200 people traveling on the Westerdam cruise ship to dock at its Sihanoukville port after the vast vessel was turned away by five other countries due to fears its passengers might be virally infected.

....
In another apparent nod to Beijing, HE has said everyone in Cambodia should take off their medical face masks and refuse to wear them.

“The prime minister doesn’t wear a mask, so why do you?” he angrily railed at reporters during a news conference in the capital Phnom Penh in recent days.

HE has also rejected calls to ban flights from China, which reportedly flew at least 3,000 Chinese travelers direct from Wuhan to Cambodia so far this year.

“There is no need to stop flights from China, because doing so would kill our economy and destroy ties with China,” HE said.
China is Cambodia’s closest ally and biggest foreign investor. More than 250,000 Chinese citizens currently live in Cambodia, comprising about 60% of all foreign residents in a country
https://www.asiatimes.com/2020/02/artic ... -to-china/
is that right? 60% of all foreign residents are Chinese??
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

If you stick masks on everyone coming off the boat you should be good until they leave the country.

FLying them all to Phnom Penh will be quite an operation by the way. 1,700 people? That's about ten flights going to Phnom Penh full and coming back empty.
The Oknya who owns the airline will be quite pleased. And don't think he wont be charging Holland America full-fare on the empty trips back to SHK.

Looks like someone will be getting new rims on the Bentley after this lucrative cluster-fuck.

Here, @DaveG This is just for you, for bogarting my go-to reaction pic........you tosser.

Must be at least 20 flights if you figure in the cancellations. As there are now officially zero cases of the Virus in the kingdom, depsite the number of chinese here and the constant flow of people back and forth at least the cruise ship customers can feel safe :stir:
Officially "0" cases, but I know of one personally that was tested in the KoW for $400 who tested negative. Then went to Vietnam and was tested for $0 and tested positive. Isn't that interesting...

All sick passengers "cleared".

I suspect many will be further checked on arrival back in their homeland.

Its good that this situation has been resolved.

The cruise ship business in Asia is pretty much finished in the short term sadly. Quite a financial blow for cruise ship lines and their crews.
