Heavy Rain in Phnom Penh

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

They need so much more shade on the riverside. It's so blistering hot when it's sunny that it probably deters a lot of people from spending any time there.

One day someone may come up with the idea of a night food market along that entire stretch.
Tables and chairs set up along the bit next to the river, vendors set up near the grassy bits. Customers can sit anywhere and order from any vendor they choose.
Noodles here, bbq pork there, fresh seafood next to that, then there are some selling traditional Khmer desserts, etc.

That would be nice. I'm sure there would be many who would venture to the riverside night food market if it ever happened.

on the prime tourist strip that attracts , probably millions of dollars every year, and should stand out as a [ best ] example of the lovely Cambodia that tourist want to see.
I always wonder [ in the kingdom of wunder why ] why money is spent in other areas , but not in the prime tourist strip.
I'm not sure what you mean, the tree fell over in a storm. These things happen. I bet it will be replaced soon, they have taken plenty of care of the riverside over the past 24 years. There were buildings along the river right up to where the frontage of the Royal Palace is 24 years ago.

If you had read the earlier posts you would notice that I posted [ Thursday 9/6/ ] the picture of the tree blown over in the storm from the day earlier. Place your bets when you think it will be replaced JB. I'm betting someone is waiting for Japan to give more funds.
So you say they have taken care of the riverside ? I have always remembered it as a mud strip when it rained and a dust bowl when it was dry, and a dragstrip for moto's dodging in-between pedestrians.

The Riverside promenade is the only part of Phnom Penh I actually like, I enjoy walking along it, just wish so many Cambodians wouldn't use the riverbank as a makeshift toilet

I'm sure a lot of money has been spent on it, in comparison to most areas of the city

Good times, I love a storm. There's a kitten hiding in my kitchen, he's in no hurry to go back outside.

We just had one of the heaviest down pours I have seen in many years, here at Takhmau. The streets were so deep they were catching fish on the roads and footpaths.
Everyone should have a waterfront property.
