Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

But in this case the guy was a professional with almost 20 years experience.
NPEMEC deputy director-general Phal Samorn said Sous Yoeun had worked with the group since 1998, including a yearlong stint in 2006 as a member of the U.N. Peacekeeping Forces in Sudan, and was one of 29 NPEMEC deminers who had been working in the region since August.
yup, very sad for him, just 1 mistakes is all it takes, EOD suits are a bitch to wear, it will feel like a fucking oven in this climate, many times i took out the helmet when my instructor is not looking.

maybe they werent given an EOD suit at all when actively trying to disable the mine, i read articles on demining in cambodia before, mostly they disarm the mine and took it a secondary stable location and i saw the photos, they were only wearing bullet proof vest, mostly

It appears that your racism is developing new dimensions. Too bad you weren't born white, you'd have a good shot at the Presidency these days.

What an ignorant statement. Who do you think has been doing all this demining for the past few decades? Clue - not foreigners, very few of them work in demining here anymore.

Back in 92 as I was inter-railing across Europe I bumped into three Singaporean Chinese guys in the youth hostel in Tours. Pleased to meet people from a culture derived from the empire it was all going well until I said "you people" in reference to the general population of Singapore. Cue some sour looks and hasty exits.

Landmine casualties drop by 25 percent
20 January 2017

The number of casualties from landmines last year dropped by a quarter compared with the year before, the first time the number of deaths or injuries have been less than 100, the Cambodian Mine Action Authority (CMAA) said yesterday.

CMAA first vice-president Serei Kosal said that to date, more than one million anti-personnel mines (APM) had been destroyed after demining efforts covered 1,500 square kilometers nationwide.
“These results have really contributed to the reduction of casualties every year. Remarkably the casualties dropped below 100 victims in 2016 for the very first time,” Mr. Kosal said during an awards ceremony for the Mine Advisory Group.

Since 1997, CMAA reported there having been 19,748 deaths and 44,914 injuries, most of which resulted in amputation, from undiscovered landmines.

These results have really contributed to the reduction of casualties every year.
They also have really contributed to widespread deforestation.
