We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Honestly as a Buddhist and having worked in a monetary in Tibet i can tell you 100% Cambodia has zero to do with Buddhism but they would have you think otherwise. Fuck me even the phnom phen museum don't know if its Hindu or Buddhist... thanks India and the old khmer empire !!!!!

Tibetan Buddhism is or was largely Mahayana with elements of Vajrayana entering at some stage. Cambodia on the other hand follows largely the Theravada tradition. Granted initially the Khmer Empire was Hindu, but Buddhism existed from around the 5th century and became prominent from around the 13th. From then until the 16th century there was some alterations in focus as invading Vietnamese pushed the Mahayana perspective and the invading Siamese tended to restore Theravada Buddhism, and Ankor Wat became a Buddhist shrine around this time. Theravada Buddhism remained the central faith until banned by the Khmer Rouge. Following the defeat of the Khmer Rouge and subsequent withdrawal of the Vietnamese troupes, the CCP declared Buddhism to be the state religion in 1991.

Hindu deities are worshipped by many Thais despite their official Buddhism, and statues and shrines of Brahma, Ganesh, Indra, Shiva, Vishnu, Lakshmi and other Hindu gods are a common sight (for example the Erawan Shrine area). Another relic of Hinduism is Garuda, now a symbol of the monarchy.

Aspects of Hinduism continue in Burma today, even in the majority Buddhist culture. For example, Thagyamin is worshipped whose origins are in the Hindu god Indra. Burmese literature has also been enriched by Hinduism, including the Burmese adaptation of the Ramayana, called Yama Zatdaw. Many Hindu gods are likewise worshipped by many Burmese people, such as Saraswati (known as Thuyathadi in Burmese), the goddess of knowledge, who is often worshipped before examinations; Shiva is called Paramizwa; Vishnu is called Withano, and others. Many of these ideas are part of thirty seven Nat or deities found in Burmese culture

For someone who claims to be Buddhist you don't seem to have much of a clue. Every country that adopted Buddhism has kept many of its older beliefs, for example Cambodian Buddhism incorporates many Animist beliefs. And it's ridiculous to think of the National Museum as a religious institution.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
