Not the first time that there has been a murder to avoid an unwanted marriage. Crazy stuff, when murdering your fiance is the only way out.

A 20-year-old groom suspected of killing his 18-year-old bride on the first day of their wedding was accused by police of premeditated murder, and is expected to be transferred to Kratie Provincial Court this morning, police said yesterday.

According to Snuol district police chief Chan Sokin, suspect Lert Chhert told authorities he killed Mun Sreynheb because he heard from villagers that she’d had intimate relations with her ex-boyfriend, adding that he didn’t love her but was being forced by his parents to marry her...

A wedding murder

Kratie: Police has caught a murderer, a groom who killed his bride the night before their wedding.

The bride died at the scene, in the back of a field , Mak Kandal village, Sre Cha commune, Snul district, Kratie province.

Police investigated the case, and quickly determined that the murderer was the groom.

However, the perpetrator whose name is Lert Chaurt, alias, Pes, 20, living at the above location hadbeen already been released for committing the criminal case on 28 February, 2016 after questioning from police.

Chan Sokim, Snul district police chief told the report that, the murder happened on 26 February and under the provincial brigadier, the police had been investigating the case carefully which led them to the groom.

He added that, on evening of February 26, this was the pre-wedding day between perpetrator, the groom, and the bride, the victim.

And on the same date after the blessing ceremony, both of them, groom and bride went to have a bath at a well at the back yard field and that is when the bride was killed.

The victim's name is Bun Srey Nhek, 18 lives at the same location as the groom and she was bludgeoned to death and strangled by a scarf. Police claimed that, after his murdering, the perpetrator pretended to be unconscious nearby the victim, and said he was hit with a flashlight by an attacker.

According to the questioning, the perpetrator, Lern Chaut, alias Pes confessed that, the reason he murdered his soon to be wife was because he did not love the bride, as she had a very bad reputation in the village, and most importantly, because their marriage was forced by their parents.
