Thai Princess Technology Institute to Begin Construction
Thai Princess Technology Institute to Begin Construction
Khmer Time/ Ven Rathavong Tuesday, 23 February 2016 445 views
Prime Minister HE and Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn have high expectations for the Kampong Speu Institute of Technology, which was funded by the Thai royal in order to develop human resources in Cambodia.
Speaking at a ground-breaking ceremony in Kampong Speu province on Tuesday, Mr. HE said students of the institute would get a high-quality technological education.
The institute will be constructed on a 200-hectare plot of land in Thpong district’s Amleang commune, according to Education Minister Hang Chuon Naron.
It will be opened for students in late 2017 and will offer two degree tracks, an Associate’s and Bachelor’s. This institute will focus on relevant majors including civil, electrical, and mechanical engineering, science, tourism, and accounting.
Mr. HE said that the citizens in Amleang have suffered from land disputes in the past, but now the commune has become an area of development.
“The citizens who are living in Amleang commune in the past time had to suffer, but now this area has become a developed zone which includes higher education institutes,” he said.
Mr. HE added that Princess Sirindhorn’s generosity would benefit all Cambodian people for generations to come.
“Samdech Cambodian Prime Minister HE initially asked me to establish a higher education institute in Koh Kong province,” the Thai princess said.
But, she added, because Koh Kong shares a border with Thailand, it is easy for Cambodian students to cross the border to go to school abroad, so the Cambodian government reconsidered their plan and moved the project to Kampong Speu province.
The princess added that she was glad to bring the institute to Kampong Speu because it was an agricultural and industrial area that would benefit from a school.
“This institute will offer many majors in order to respond to the demands of the government, and help all sectors develop strongly,” Princess Sirindhorn said, adding that Cambodia needs people with knowledge to serve in those sectors.
“This ground-breaking ceremony is a symbol of the tied relationship between both countries,” she said.

Any idiot can slap a few bricks together with sand and cement and get praise for it after calling it a school. But a educated person, a person with vision for the future education of people [ like me ] knows that you need qualified teachers and money for salaries, and extra money maintenance, books etc, I would prefer to see qualified teachers, paid good money , teaching kids under a mango tree first, rather than money spent on bricks and mortar.Rutiger wrote:Engineering curriculum. Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

They'd be better served upgrading the existing universities to world class.

Re: Good News
The mentality of underpaying, overworking (see English teacher) and overcharging (see students) has to change before the idea of world class happens. Otherwise, just another fail.
Re: Good News
Actually there is some general truth to that line of thought. If you want to entice qualified, experienced lecturers to Bumfuck Cambodia, a brand new, modern and fully equipped laboratory and lecture hall may go alot better than "gather around in the dust under the old mango tree for a lecture on electronic capacitors, students!". Now of course i'm not saying the new building WILL actually be modern or well-equipped, but theoretically "if you build it they will come" is not entirely invalid. Maybe more like "IF you build it right, you have SOME chance of a successful educational program coming together".SinnSisamouth wrote:build it and they will come
