Good news or bad news ?

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Good news or bad news ?

Post by Anchor Moy »

Words fail me...

Goodnews/bad news ?
Prime Minister HE yesterday assured the public that if he lives to 90, he no longer aspires to lead the country at that age.

In 2007, HE, one of the world’s longest-serving leaders, announced that he planned to hold power until 90 if people continued to vote for him. But ahead of the 2013 national elections he revised that target, saying he wished to remain in power until 74.

So, is 74 better than 90 ?

(And he wouldn't be the first to change his mind at 74 !)

I was standing at Independence Monument yesterday and one of the local guys with me pointed out HE's mansion across the road. And then pointed out the mansion next door, now within the same compound, and said HE bought out his neighbour and added the property to the original. And then he commented, "But he doesn't live there now, he mostly lives at one of his other properties."

Sounds about right. I understand he lives in his fortress at Takmao.

He also has a 'palace' on Ochheateal Beach next door to the Chrystal Hotel. No doubt, he has others elsewhere.

Easy to find, just watch where the chopper lands. Several km past Takmao on RHS.

I visit a mate who owns a property outside of Ta Khmao. There's a very interesting property just down from his - amazingly, even though there's barely a handful of residences along his laneway, the road is getting a major upgrade and services never seem to be a problem out that way.

It's a good time to buy properties anywhere along that road that is not affected by road widening. When the road is upgraded and widened there will be hundreds of Cambodians loosing their homes and wanting to buy again in the same area.

Neither good nor bad. We don't care how long he can live but we care how Cambodia can change.
