Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. I ride a bicycle, and give way to anyone who does not give way to me.

That does not mean I have no risk of having an accident. For example, people often pull out from the right with no warning, forcing me to suddenly swerve left. This creates a real likelihood of being hit from behind by a fast moving vehicle.

They were all going too fast.
Nah, they were all going at reasonable speeds except for the black Range Rover, that was going at a ridiculous speed for a built-up area. Nice try with the condescending BS lecture though. :)
Again JB, you've got it all wrong. The girl driving the moto MIGHT HAVE BEEN GOING an appropriate speed, had she not been approaching an intersection with several vehicles blocking vision of coming cross traffic.

The speed limit for motobikes on most streets in the city is 30 kph. The limit. One would imagine some common sense is needed when approaching an intersection, right? It's entirely conceivable she may have been driving in excess of that, anyways. But we'll never know. At some point people gotta learn from the mistakes others have made. There have been way too many accidents of this kind for people to continue to claim ignorance.

My condolences are with the girl and her loved ones. A terrible way to go.

I am still in shock and dismay. I have rarely seen anyone travelling with such speed and disregard for safety as this. It appears that the RR was travelling upwards of 70 KPH, and upon impact (drivers side no less) didn't even hesitate or touch the brakes.

It also looks like the white SUV was also clipped in the front end.

Who drives like that, without any caution, right through an intersection?

I see most people driving slowly and being double careful when there is lots of ppl around. Even when really congested, it works well because everyone must take extra care. Well, that being said, I am not a PP guy and have only driven a moto once there, and straight out of the city for a road trip.

Defensive driving teaches to always anticipate the worst of the other drivers, and to check and double check.

Once again, such a sad and brutal end to such a rising star. I hope justice can be served, and am waiting to hear more about that. I wonder how this young lady driver feels about taking out her counterpart in life.

At least she never suffered or even knew what was coming. Our lives are so fragile, that could have been any of us. Just like those Swedish blokes in the tuk tuk. It's good to reflect, and to have our affairs and our hearts in order, JIC 'there but for the grace of God, go I'.

50% the "me" attitude + 50% cell phone use while driving = 100% ignorance

Well, its easy to think like that, but shes young and stupid. Her parents are complicit for even giving her the keys. In the west, this is involuntary manslaughter. She didn't intend to kill someone. She was careless, neglectful, and stupid. She could just as easily have killed herself. She should be sanctioned and punished, but not put to death.

Prime minister is interested in the case. Hope he will make an example of it.

The victim is dead now , death sentence won't bring her back.

But something like some time in prison + cut one finger to remember what she did is more than wrong
could be (but won't happen) an appropriate punishment
