Female Student Killed in Range Rover Hit and Run in Phnom Penh, Cambodia (UPDATE: Release from Prison)

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

If only they had found a lawyer with the balls and integrity to make a stand.
As someone else noted, he may have had a back handler to settle lower.

Laywer might have gotten a fairly amount outside to convince the family to lower their claim ... :stir:
You should edit your post and change 'might have gotten' to 'almost surely got'.

It's about 17 times the going rate, so not too bad.
... she was low-level flying in a vehicle that was, what, 17 times the value of a standard family car?

No jail, and I mean a proper one not a hotel jail is no deterrent for these rich assholes to think they are immune and can kill with impunity. If no jail is the result then it's still a shit unfair justice system!

No argument here, a life is kind of priceless.

That said, a few grand is normal enough compensation for most all road accidents involving deaths here.

I know what you're saying and I understand - and I would have thought compensation that reflected the offending family's ability to pay would be more reasonable. That family (and their little princess) are going to forget about what amounts to the slaying of an innocent by an entitled brat before the year is out.
