Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I'm pretty sure I've seen this guy wandering for approx a year. I admire his patience if this is the first time he's reached out.

Yes, this is Manfred from Germany. First reportedly spotted in June last year.

Yeah I've seen him numerous times as well. Not always with a bag though.

Yep, he's been around for over a year at least, he hasn't quite got the method of calling out "A'jai!" down pact yet, would probably collect more cans/plastic bottles if people heard him calling, gives them a chance to get outside with their recyclables. Last time I saw him he'd moved up in the A'jai world, had a fancy new push cart as opposed to a sack.

I wonder if he ever gets sent away for 're-education' in the regular police round ups of the homeless and destitute?

I sent his picture to my German friend who is working with the German embassy to see if the embassy is aware of this destitute German. Actually he went to the embassy quite a few times late year seeking for assistance. The embassy suggested him to fly back to Germany and the embassy agreed to lend him money, however he refused to go back to Germany.

I wonder why one want to be destitute in Cambodia where they will gain no support or anything from the housing country. There are a lot of potentials that he or she will be able to have a normal life or start a new life in his or her home country.
