Westerners Injured & Khmer Killed in Gas Station Explosion in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

The Ministry of Mines and Energy has been conducting further investigation into the case.
The way I read that is the paperwork is still sitting on their desk and they have never done a inspection of the site

Depends on the terms and conditions included in the PDS for the particular insurance .

Mine says <250cc (albeit I had to pay a premium for >50cc) and must have: moto licence from my home country, applicable local licence in the other country (this is open to conjecture as khmers don't need a licence <125cc and this may or may not apply to barangs), wear helmet.

UPDATE: The mother of injured Abbey Alexander has said this morning on social media that they are hoping to fly her back to the US, but they will need more than $US150,000 to pay the transport costs alone.

Image
You know I’ve never been one to share my problems or ask for help on Facebook but we need help. Abbey is not doing well and hopefully will be transported to the US in the next day or so. The transport costs are over $150,000. With loans and donations we are still falling short. Please, if you can help or share or get any exposure on this, please do what you can.

Horrible.

Questions for Americans here, would you do the same in this case? Repatriate her?

I mean, would health care be covered in the US for the poor girl?
Wouldn't the 150k be better spend in a good hospital in Singapore or Bangkok?

I hear healthcare in the US is crazy expensive. My insurance, for instance, covers healthcare worldwide, in any hospital I choose, as long as it's outside the US.

The first thing to do when someone gets burnt is get some of this spray on stuff from a pharmacy in a white can and use plenty of it. When the mother of my girls was burnt in a gas cooker explosion we used this and she ended up with not a scar mark on her.

This is before applying the spray.

It's all about cooling asap (the longer the better), either by spray, by showering or by jumping in the river. The problem is there's so little knowledge, and the victims were probably too much in a shock to think about it.

My friend's wife was involved in a gas-cooker explosion too, and they thought it was a good idea to apply cream - covering the skin and keeping the heat in. The result is not very pretty. The mother of your girls was lucky she received the right initial treatment.

My brother was run over by a motorcycle in a hit and run near PP 10 or so years ago. An air ambulance with a Dr and nurse to BKK 3 weeks in the hospital, 2 surgeries and he still has the use of his leg but it set him back $40k. I am sure it will cost her 150k to go home, is that a better option than heading to Singapore or BKK? I would imagine family will want to be near her and the convalescing will be much longer with a burn. I think most parents circle the wagons so to speak when there is a tragedy in the family, my other brother flew to Bkk so Jim wouldn t be alone and his life wasn t in danger. Most gofundme /facebook plea pages are for ridiculous wants, this one is truly tragic and deserves attention.

My costs were close to $100k for flight to Thailand, surgery (face, teeth, hands), month + in hospital.

No idea the treatment she needs but I would rather Bangkok than USA if given the choice.
