Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Cambodia News (Kampot): According to a post on social media, on October 11, at 3 AM, a French woman was gang raped by three men in a car on a narrow road in Kampot city. Later that same day at noon the victim went to file the complaint at the police station to search for the suspects.

The victim said she was leaving a restaurant at around 3 AM was walking along the Riverside. When she was near the Kampong Bay Bridge the three suspects in a Toyota Camry came really close to her Then they got out and grabbed her and dragged her into the vehicle. They drove her to a quiet place where they raped her in the car and took a video of the horrific event. Afterwards they let her out of the car and she ran away.

The police haven't caught the suspect yet. However, on October 13, Mr. Hor Vanna, Kampot governor, said that the police are investigating and searching for the suspect for case preparation and punishment by the legal system.

There's cameras on that bridge.

Presuming her allegations are true, hopefully they catch and lock up these scumbags.

Just another indication of how Kampot is becoming like Shitsville. Its predictable how so many expats feel the need to surround themselves with other expats and reallocate to places with " Western " cafés ,massage clipjoints, & similar establishments.. They flock to the next " cool town " but in reality remain in a predictable bubble.

A woman got raped in Kampot and your take is "There shouldn't be so many Westerners there anyway."

Let me get this straight: rape of anyone anywhere is always wrong. However, adult people should also have their wits about, right?

Walking around as a woman - presumably alone - at around 3 AM is not a good idea, anywhere in the world.

You may shout: but hey that's not fair!!! That's right, it's not fair, but it's something you have to think about.

And my main point: not just in Kampot, nor in Cambodia, ANYWHERE in the world walking around alone at 3am is a risk, especially as a woman. Sorry to break the news....

Yes of course if you are a woman you should be home by 10pm and leave the guys to have their fun. Why not have a curfew for women while you're at it ? :protest:

FWIW. Not so long ago Kampot was such a sleepy town, that yes of course you could walk or stagger home late at night, male or female. Because frankly, there was nobody else in the streets except for those bloody dogs. A stick was enough protection for anyone. Times change.
Actually, now I think about it, there was nothing open in Kampot after about 10pm anyway.

No, I'm not victim blaming, I'm not proposing a curfew, I'm just saying: have your wits about, not just women, but everyone.

OK, let me put it differently then: would you let your girlfriend walk home alone at 3am?
And also: anywhere in the world?

Would you?
