A French man is sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for stealing 3 phones from a Cambodian

Phnom Penh: According to Kohsantepheap Daily News, The judge of the municipal court of Phnom Penh declared the verdict on 27, August, 2015, a foreign offender name MARRET FRANK CHRISTOPE HENRI, French, 47 is sentenced to 1 years and 6 months for theft crime which he committed in Phnom Penh on 16 March 2015. The time of his serving will count from the arrest day.

His trial was happened on 19, August, 2015 by Judge Meang Tony and he then set the day of verdict declaration on 27, August, 2015. As a result, the Judge decided to imprison him for 1 years and 6 months and ordered him to compensate 6000 dollar (USD) to the accuser name Ly Sokheng. He is fully entitled to bring the case to higher court.

The court confirmed that the defendant had confessed that he had done what he had been accused of. He did it on 16, June, 2015. At that time, he was staying in the first floor Landy ? Hotel, he saw the door opened, so he sneaked in and took those phones.

The defendant added that, the reason that he decided to do it, because when he was travelling, he had all his valuable properties stolen, so he decided to steal things from other. Moreover, he had wife and kids in Vietnam who were in need of money. He needed to send money to them. He said, he was a teacher in Vietnam and his salary was 1500 dollar per month.

The defendant continued, because he had some problem with this wife, so he traveled to Cambodia and that when he got chance to steal those phone and sold them all for 500 dollar (USD). After that he sent all those money to his wife in Vietnam and soon he left the hotel to stay in a guest house.

The court confirmed that, on 20, March, 2015 he was staying in a guest house call Dovin? for one night. Around 11:00 pm, He stole a black bag that stuffed with a camera. He left the guest house for 2 or 3 hours with that black bag. The guest house owner reported it to police and then police arrested him while he was sitting at the riverside.

He stole 3 phones and has to pay a compensation of $ 6000 (probably made from 24 carat gold)???? The scumbags in this case is the judge and the accuser.
If I were the French prime minister -seeing such sentences- I would go back to colonial rule, mobilize the army and flattened the whole fuckin' country. They deserve it......corrupt pack !

Yeah that's bullshit. 1.6 years for three phones... AND $6000 compensation?! Must have stolen them from the wrong guy. The white Range Rover driver who killed a teenager on the highway near Kompong Speu last year paid $5000 compensation and got no jail... It's a ridiculous sentence that doesn't really fit the crime or circumsrances, regardless whether you hate thieves with a passion or not.

Something confuses me in this country. The guy was broke, he stole phones, he sold the phones for $500...he gets caught...and they fine him $6000. How do they think he will pay it? With jail-time?
