Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

4 French Arrested for Using Drugs in Siem Reap

Post by prahocalypse now »

The four French were arrested on Tuesday night for smoking drugs. The cops tested their piss, and they tested positive. They were in a rented house, so they might be long term residents. Unfortunately the competent authorities haven't given their names. Therefore they can't be publicly shamed yet.

Fourteen people, including four French tourists and ten Cambodians, were arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly using drugs in Siem Reap city.

Keo Kimseng, a provincial military police officer, said the French consisted of three men and one woman. None of the suspects’ identities were released.

“They were caught in the act while smoking drugs inside their rented houses in Slor Kram commune,” he said. “After their arrests, we took urine samples and they all tested positive for drugs.”

He said provincial military police confiscated 18 packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing 3.46 grams, one package of dried marijuana weighing 12.34 grams, one package of ecstasy weighing 46.5 grams, a drug scale and other drug related materials.

The 14 suspects have been temporarily detained for further questioning at provincial military police headquarters and have been preliminarily charged with drug use and possession.

Doesn't happen often but I agree with chorlton. A few years ago they raided one of the Happy Pizza places in Siem Reap and everyone inside got arrested, happy or not. I have always been wary of places were people light up, way to easy for the police to target everybody around for a shake-down.

I thought people went to eat Pizza, not to engage in joint smoking. Are the "happy pizza's" legal?
Always "hope" but never "expect".

It's not the weed they're worried about, it's the meth and the X.

Moreover, the town of SR is much smaller than PP so the coppers have less money to make and less crime to focus on. Chasing small-time users are what they have to do.

:chin:
No evidence but being piss tested in a touristic establishment police raid? Haven’t you been local long enough to shrug off at the possibility? Seems to me that not only occurrences are as rare as tigers sightings, walking out of it should be basic top bloque expat level.
