Man Dies in Freak Accident while Attending Call of Nature

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Cambodia News, Banteay Meanchey: A man was killed in an accident on September 10, 2020 in Nam Tao village, Nam Tao commune, Phnom Srok district, Banteay Meanchey province. He fell from a balcony at his house and hit his head on a fence post, was seriously injured, and died before being taken to hospital.

The victim was Chreung Dung, a 41-year-old man living in Nam Tao village. His wife, Chan Sakhuon, 47 years old, said that after dinner, her husband went upstairs to watch TV. At 10 pm, her husband went out to urinate off the balcony, he lost his balance, and fell from the house, hitting his head on the stone post underneath.

Guys just seem to like pissing anywhere outdoors in this country.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

I guess it's common practice to folks in the village? Unnecessary loss of life. RIP

Because there is probably no toilet in the home and he was too tired or drunk to walk to the outhouse. Usually men die with their tool in their hand for other more pleasurable reasons. RIP

Toilets are normally downstairs and outside so easier to piss over the balcony , should have had a higher railing but then he couldn't piss over it, catch 22
I'm standing up, so I must be straight.

Handrails should be higher.

When I'm staying at my in-law's place, a nocturnal pee is always either over the balcony, through the window, or sometimes through a crack in the bamboo slat flooring.

Much easier than attempting to get out the door which is locked and bolted like Fort Knox, then fall down the stairs and wake up the hounds, then wander into the backyard field and stand on a snake or dollop of cow dung.

One day I was under a house in a village talking to a group of people. There was a girl in a hammock talking to another girl. The baby in the house upstairs did a pee, which ran through one of the gaps in the bamboo flooring, and straight into the girls mouth. Of course she moved quickly.

On another day, under another house, the grandfather upstairs tipped out the remainder of the tea he didn't want to drink. It landed about a meter from me, and splashed me a little. The other people downstairs let him know I was there.

So always be conscious of anyone who may be under the house.

Also, never sit below the baby upstairs.
