Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Fourteen Chinese detained after leaving casino

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

3 January 2018
PAILIN - Police in Pailin’s Sala Krav district detained 14 Chinese nationals who were on their way back to China on Tuesday after they tried to leave their jobs at a casino after less than one week, according to a district police officer.

A district police officer who requested anonymity said the 14 Chinese, which included two women, were stopped when they tried to take a taxi to Siem Reap to take a flight back to China.

“We stopped the 14 of them along National Road 59 in Phnom Koy village, Sala Krav commune, after the owner of the casino sought our help. They were on their way to Siem Reap province to take a flight back to their hometowns,” he said.

“Those workers had just been employed in the Crown Casino on December 30 and it was less than one week until January 2 and they left the casino without informing the casino manager,” he said.

According to the police officer, after the group of Chinese were detained they were taken back to the casino to discuss the possibility of compensation to the casino and he said they had reached a deal.

Sooo if they had not committed any crime why where the police involved? Surly they had the right to leave Cambodia and their jobs if they wished to?
Are the police now working for the Chinese masters?

im assuming the casino had paid or invested in their relocation but the police constantly being involved in civil disputes here is troubling and unsustainable

What a dumb decision by the Chinese. A shrude chinaman would have agreed to go back to work , until he was fired cause the casino was loosing money.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
