Re: Four Dead in Phnom Penh Gas Explosion
This is one area where Cambodians should be educated, along with driving on the road. Many lives could be saved.

Fuel, gas business scrutinised
Voun Dara | Publication date 20 July 2020 | 22:10 ICT
Phnom Penh Municipal Police chief Sar Thet instructed 14 district police chiefs on Monday to increase law enforcement on people who operate fuel stations and shops selling and refilling gas containers.
Thet made the statement while chairing a meeting to promote and implement measures by the Ministry of Health and Phnom Penh Municipal Hall to inspect karaoke parlours and nightclubs as the venues are under order to transform into restaurants.
“District police chiefs must increase regular training for vendors who are in vulnerable businesses, such as fuel stations and shops selling and refilling gas, especially those that should have extinguishers in case a fire happens,” Thet said.
Phnom Penh municipal deputy police chief Neth Vantha told The Post the instruction is in line with Sub-Decree 131 on conditions and measures to prevent fires.
“People do not understand or participate in this activity widely. People who are engaged in the business of selling fuel and refilling gas have not yet complied with the law which does not allow businesses to sell risky goods in urban areas,” he said.

Re: Four Dead in Phnom Penh Gas Explosion
I stopped on my way past here the other day. The woman with the head bandage was there (owner/wife?). There is only the burnt out ground floor walls remaining - I'm not sure if there was a mezzanine or upper level before but I assume so - plus a number of charred gas bottles. A devastating and emotional sight.
Have always had in my mind to never live too close to one of those places.

Good point when you are checking out a future neighborhood. Gas-seller is bad, petrol station not good either, but also, is your local mom and pop selling petrol on the side ?timmydownawell wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:54 pm I stopped on my way past here the other day. With all that alcohol in bottles of rum and whisky that could catch fire, I wouldn't even want to live above a bar .

Re: Four Dead in Phnom Penh Gas Explosion
I one saw a stand in SR selling bottled petrol. They didn't have lids on the bottles but had stuffed the tops with paper. It was literally a row of molotov cocktails. Wish I'd got a photo. I haven't seen that again since (thankfully).Anchor Moy wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 2:16 pmGood point when you are checking out a future neighborhood. Re: Four Dead in Phnom Penh Gas Explosion
Yeah, I went to a little mom-pop shop a while ago and there was an old lady with one eye outside filling up those small water bottles with petrol. Petrol spilt all over the place and people walking by smoking... I didn't stay long.timmydownawell wrote: ↑Sun Jul 26, 2020 4:18 pmI one saw a stand in SR selling bottled petrol.
