I assume that pic was added to the GoFundMe page when they started asking for money, but that it was taken years ago.John Bingham wrote:Sure, but that doesn't look like a recent picture, unless he has suddenly gone back to the US (or somewhere else, I don't recognize that as a local bridge) and his face has completely healed already.General Mackevili wrote:Forest Carothers seems to be doing better...

Kind of the fundraising opposite of 'poverty porn.' Maybe 'better times porn.'John Bingham wrote:Sure, but that doesn't look like a recent picture, unless he has suddenly gone back to the US (or somewhere else, I don't recognize that as a local bridge) and his face has completely healed already.General Mackevili wrote:Forest Carothers seems to be doing better...

I hope he has the good sense to go home after this. And not use funding to keep being a drunken ass. Obviously I have no sympathy. These types will surely make it harder on all. They should deport both of em.

Are these guys both still in Phnom Penh? Was O'Neill ever arrested?

Ah, there may be an update.
Back in mid-2016, shortly after the attack, Forest's brother Ethan Carothers started a Gofundme fundraising effort that raised $5,245 for Forest's medical care. Ethan then reported that Forest had done a runner from Calmette hospital against medical advice sometime after awakening from his coma and that the money raised "should" be enough to pay the medical bills. No further update on what happened to the money or whether it was actually used to pay the medical bills after Forest fled the hospital.
Then, in February 2017, Forest himself initiated a gofundme plea. He said he still suffered from brain damage and that he wanted to sue O'Neill but O'Neill was sitting in prison. He asked for $5,000 for future medical care and therapy and flight back to the USA. He raised fifty bucks.

Carothers has a new FB page with updates this month, unclear where he is, but it doesn't look like Cambodia.

Wow, I wonder if he has the ability to let the dude out of Prey Sar Prison by dropping his complaint. Seems he'd take whatever money he could at this stage and cut his losses.
