Foreigners Get Re-Educated by Traffic Police Wearing High-Heels in Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Sometimes, I see barangs not wearing a helmet, and I shake my helmeted head and wonder why, so it's heartening for me to see a good news story of Koh Kong's finest educating the motoring public. Also, aided by the cute, slim and petite officer who demostrated that no matter how vertical challenged you are, you can still play your part in road safety. Well done KK PD!

I agree. The guy wearing it probably just assumes it means the Buddhist version, but it is obviously the German version. Both versions matter internationally but in Koh Kong I'm pretty sure most would, I hope, assume it is the Buddhist version.

Nahh, thats the nazi one, the hindu ones sticky out bits go the other way round. Theres a bit of a thing for dictator merch here isn't there? I have seen wristwatches with the face of hitler and chairman mao on in the markets. Reminds me of seeing a political poster a few years back made by a khmer who I would guess was looking for a bit of clipart of a general or such like with hand in the air. Unknowingly he used a pic of Freddie Mercury in the red forces jacket. How I chortled. This less funny.

This bugged me out when I first saw it. I think I was transferring in Taipei and saw the symbol. I wasn't aware that it was not originally a Nazi symbol. I didn't know the history and it thru me off for a second.
I think I read somewhere how Japan was changing the symbol on their maps because people were confusing it for a swastika.

That's not true, they can go in either direction, and the one that kid is wearing is plainly a Nazi swastika, check the dimensions, tilt and color scheme.

Haha, I remember when I first saw it on a Thai bar girl. Woke up the next morning and saw it, thinking, "I knew I brought home some trashy bar girl, but damn, first time bagging a Nazi."

Threw me off again in Bali when I realized I was being taken to SWASTIKA RESTAURANT near Swastika guesthouse.

And I will say, I had some students in Cambodia, college age, that had a Hitler book one day, and I sarcasticly acted shocked that he was reading it, and he asked me with a straight face something like, "do you think he's bad?"

Even my girlfriend said that when she was taught about him back in high school, he was portrayed as "good and bad. Bad because he's a communist, but good because he tried to improve his country."

And don't get me started on what most Saudis seem to think of Hitler.

same thing. No difference. I will not go into all the wisdom of Swastika vs Hakenkreuz....and where the two stem from.

Yep, as Gonk says, same in Bali - quite a shock when you experience it for the first time.

When not rotated as in the Nazi style, the swastika can run either clockwise or anticlockwise, denoting two different forms of (from memory) Hinduism.
