Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Foreigner Sleeping in Car Wakes Up and Nabs Thief

Phnom Penh, Cambodia News: A 22-year-old man, Chan Reaskmey, was briefly detained by police after he tried to steal property from a foreigner's car, at 5 am on March 06, 2019, behind Wat Ounalom in the riverside area of Phnom Penh.

Before the incident, an unidentified foreigner man, aged about 50 years old, drove up in an old car and went to sleep on street 178. Seeing that the man was sleeping, a thief came to check out the car before opening the door and trying to steal something. However, the foreign man woke up when the door opened, and he grabbed the thief and delivered him to the police.

On questioning, the suspect confessed that he was a habitual thief who stole people's property and had spent some time in a correctional center. But, because the victim didn't lose anything, the suspect was simply given a talking to by police before being released.

Catch & release, eh? The habitual jao will be back out there on street 178 tonight. Why not at least give him a solid caning by way of rehab?

Maybe he parked there at 5 a.m. and only pretended to sleep in his car in order to catch a thief, like a Barang Batman.

Looks like they are dating. Maybe a 5:00 am *** in the car gone wrong? Makes more sense than the silly original news story. A barang sleeping in an (unlocked) old car on Street 178 and a Khmer looking to steal something from a car when someone is inside? Even in Cambodia that is too hard to believe. Maybe not!

Yeah, sounds like Dankman was on a sting operation for his lock scoping Khmerican. Or maybe the US embassy did it on his behalf
