A Foreigner Seen Laying Out Unconsciously On The Sidewalk

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I think I don't have it too. :(
haha no surprise actually buying health insurance is not common in Cambodia.
Which is actually pretty stupid.
The majority of Cambodians are already struggling and having hard time to bring food on the table for three time per day. Most of us don't earn much, so do you think they would dare to spend their little money to buy health insurance. Plus, it ain't cheap though.
Sorry, I do not know where and how you work; most of the Cambodians I hang with can afford Rovers and nice houses; but they think insurance is an unnecessary expense. Until one of their relatives has an accident, as happened recently, and needs to be medevaced to Bangkok......

just like what i mentioned above buying health insurance is not common in Cambodia. It is still a new idea to us. I would buy health insurance in the future when my income is secure. I hope i am able to buy it as soon as possible. I think it will take more time for our people to understand about any types of insurance.

Those who can afford Rovers and Nice houses is a small portion of Cambodian. I hope they are just businessmen and earn money in a proper way, not those blood suckers, corrupted people who robbed from the poor.

I was working with an NGO. I will never become rich for working with NGO, but i am fine with it.

I'm not sure what kind of insurance which I bought, but I was checked my health before I became a member. And they are going to return the money to me in many years if there is nothing happen to me.

I bought it because I spend a little bit money per day and when I finish it, I will use it to visit Dubai. :-)

the trouble with insurance is, if you become ill, you will have to pay for the medical fees, and then the insurance company will refund you your money, but in order to get the treatment in the first place, you would need the money first? which im guessing most khmers cant afford...

Uh oh, my "scam alert" senses are starting to tingle.

What's the name of the insurance company?

Yeah, it has the scent of a scam.

That said, I know a buddy in the States who is able to cash-out his life insurance policy whenever he wants before he dies, but it's a very small amount of cash that he would get compared to what he's put in over the years.

prahkeitouj,,,,, Time to start your own thread on insurance. There are plenty of expats here that have experience and knowledge of the insurance industry, and by posting the '' gobble-de gook ' of the contract you signed, you may get good advice on wether you are wasting your hard earned money.

Depends on the cover. I do not have to pay up front in accredited hospitals.

It's good if you can share your experience. I'm new about it and not really sure about it policy.
