German Expat Gerrard Matheson from Pocoloco Bar Brutally Murdered on Beach in Sihanoukville, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

It's been confirmed that the victim is a German expat named Gary (Wolfgang?) who owned PocoLoco Bar.

I don't think he was homeless. Maybe he was camping.

A small funeral/ceremony is being prepared for Gary in Sihanoukville. If I find details later, I'll share them here.

As far as I can tell, Gary has been living in Cambodia since around 2005 and has made a lot of close friends since then.

Thanks. I found some information online confirming his unfortunate death, but it appeared to be in German, and I couldn't translate it perfectly.

Condolences to all his friends and family.

Gary's death. Something also mentioned "Wolfgang," but I guess it was referring to his brother and not to his last name.

I would imagine it is saying his brother, Wolfgang, has moved back to Germany.

Unfortunately there run by former Wolfgang u Gary Pocoloco no longer, because it has made a Lucky supermarket space... I really only mention it, because otherwise it would look for one or the other. In an English magazine, I could read the following: "the Pocoloco could never develop its full potential, which is very, very unfortunate." There is nothing to add. Wolfgang himself is now again in Germany, Gary buzzes somewhere in Sihanoukville rum.

Here's more about his old bar, Pocoloco:

The Pocoloco is one of the main nightlife venues in Sihanoukville. Situated on the main road, near the Golden Lion Roundabout, it's impossible to miss.

There is something for everyone at the Pocoloco, two bars offering a wide selection of drinks, Free WiFi, Big Screen TV, a western style nightclub, great food and friendly girls, what more could you ask for?!

Pocoloco is also the perfect venue for live bands, with a great atmosphere, the raised stage area and plenty of comfortable seating in the VIP areas and around the club. Add good food and drink at reasonable prices served by friendly waitresses and you are guaranteed a great night.

If you're thinking of throwing a party whilst you are in town, this can be catered for at the Pocoloco. Depending on the size of the party, we can arrange for you to have sole use of the VIP area, a Private Bar or even the entire Club. Contact us and let us know your requirements, we'll be only to pleased to help.
