Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

RIP.
Maybe the victim's name is Gerry or Gary. From Huy Bunleng's Facebook page:

Sihanoukville, A body of a foreigner was found on Tuesday morning on Kamsap beach right in front of the provincial hall located in Village Bei, Sihanoukville city. The victim's motorbike Yamaha Nou Vo Mx with number plate Takeo 1-4858 was found about 3 meters from the body. Police said the victim died from violent, probably a murder as the body was found with three wounds all near his both ears. Some evidence such as sticks were found at the scene. Look at the dog sitting there on guard.
Unbelievable it wasn't somebody located from very, very near to the scene.

Did I say that? I simply mentionned it as a possibility as a one off. You probably don't even know about that place, nor the other one being run at the back of the QueenCo hotel, nor the one underground behind the Golden Sands Hotel, nor the one beside Skyline, nor the one downtown by the bus station, all run by connected shadies and filled 24/7 with young guys on meth and underage girls maning the games. Do you know how many times the cops scope out these places looking for whoever just robbed or stabbed some other khmer for whatever? Lots of money changing hands at these places, so much so that PC Naren hasn't been able to shut them down!

More precisely it's about a dead near penniless German that has been sleeping on the beach and was most likely killed during his sleep, with a nearly full moon out.

Well, whenever anything happens that is sufficiently unusual or interesting to generate multiple news reports and threads on all expat forums, there is going to be speculation about said event/incident. That is why the threads exist, to discuss the reports, extrapolate from the known facts/evidence and to speculate who/what/when/where/how etc.

Even investigating authorities do that. They see where known facts and evidence takes them and if it is a conclusion. Often what they have won't initially be a provable, unequivocal conclusion. They then have to form a theory to develop lines of further enquiry - for example, they may know what happened to victim x, how it happened but don't know why or by whom. In short, they speculate. Why did victim x get killed? Knowing that may lead to who did it.

If speculation is discouraged or proscribed in threads, they are rendered pointless. You may as well just read the news reports of solved crimes or read True Crime Monthly a year later.

EDIT: German? Has he been identified?
