Foreigner Caught RED HANDED on CCTV Stealing Motorbike in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

If you had a receipt, but found your moto had been stolen, who, if anyone, would be liable for replacement of the moto? (For example, if you park your moto at night market, phsar kandal, orussey, etc. ) I think the receipt thing is a false sense of security, albeit better than not having a receipt at all.
That's a good question, however thankfully its never happened. The slip in my pocket matches the slip on my motor. Its one in one out. I don't think its a false sense of security at all, and a lot of the places I go (parking lots) have actual cameras too. The restaurants and hotels and such have attendant security guards that often pull the bike out for you. But I have never had my motor in PP.

The gang of thugs wouldn't be able to collect your rented bike, unless they had the correct receipt as well. But you know, ALL the moto parking places are in it too, and they will provide the thugs with a fake same number receipt to cover their ass. And they pay the police, so they are safe. Shit everyone is in this except me and maybe Explorer. I should be more careful.

Be careful!

It is to me. I like calling it that. My GF does also, that's why I adopted it. Thanks though, that's helpful. If I cared, I would probably take it to heart.

haha, well, if I returned to one of these secure places and produced my receipt and they couldn't locate my motor, I would promptly call the police. I am pretty sure there would be some surveillance to review and it would be made clear. Srsly though, has anyone lost their bike from a secure parking area?

I have been extremely lucky to have read all Explorer's warnings over time, I'm pretty sure that's why none of those horror stories ever happened to me or anyone I know.

Except for the guy I met two days ago, he apparently had four 100 USD notes switched in his room safe in a hotel on 130 - Sisowath. But he doesn't use this forum.

the tech already exists in the west with some banks using dye to stain the banknotes.
Years ago I had a contract to design this type of product for a Chinese bank - the plastic containers that carried the wads of banknotes would have a dye and very small explosive charge that would 'explode' the dye over thief and banknotes if the container was forced open.

When I tested my design, I misjudged the size of the pyrotechnic explosive charge. There was a large explosion within the confined space of the plastic container that not only covered the banknotes with coloured dye - the force of the explosion almost landed me in hospital with my hand carrying the container close to being blown off!

I warned the bank that I had to redesign the product, due to the force of the explosion.

They said that it sounded just fine :)
