Foreigner Caught RED HANDED on CCTV Stealing Motorbike in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

I know you mean well explorer but you do seem to be stating the obvious most of the time.
Bike thefts back home in the UK are constantly popping up on my fb feeds with the "make it too hot to handle" line......

Well now, I thought this thread might be about trying to identify a potential thief? How has it turned to this bickering. I don't even follow whats happening here. Lets find the thief.

My bike is never EVER parked anywhere (but at home) without security sitting there watching the bikes. If I have a rental I would be even more vigilant. Its stupid to leave your bike unattended without a receipt.

It is only obvious to people who know what is going on. Many more will be caught out in the future.

The foreigner is apparently part of a Cambodian gang who are involved with hiring

out motorbikes and stealing them and messing with locks and all sorts of mischief.

He has probably been forced by evil local villains to perform this task. There's

absolutely no chance that he's a dodgy meth-head parolee or anything,

it's always the Cambodian's fault, so please don't try to accuse that poor white guy. :?

I still think this hirer place who steals bike back thing is urban legend or certainly not as prevalent as people make out.

It’s normally told by people who’ve had their rental bike nicked and don’t want to be told “You should have taken precautions” by some jerkwad.
Or they’ve heard a bloke down the pub said.

Hire firms make more money with less risk by overcharging for damage, which 90% of the time happens, than risking stealing back their own bike, which they do what with? Spray it, strip it, re-rent it?
Do they do it to all bikes or just the shitty ones?
It’s just nonsense. Just like the fake money out the ATM thing.

There were a lot of stories about it happening way back. Half them were probably just idiots losing their bikes when drunk. I believe it used to happen but I haven't heard of it for years.

I knew a Thai guy in Chewang who had a moto hire place in 92. I asked then if he knew of anyone who did it, because even then it was fact it was happening, and he laughed and said “You think I have time for that shit!”

Most of the time he’d trying to get them fixed after crashes.

If you had a receipt, but found your moto had been stolen, who, if anyone, would be liable for replacement of the moto? (For example, if you park your moto at night market, phsar kandal, orussey, etc. )

I think the receipt thing is a false sense of security, albeit better than not having a receipt at all.
