Foreign workers should be offered free medical care, PM says

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Does anyone have a problem with that ? Sounds peachy. However, there' s a slight catch if you examine the statement. :o
why not?
Cambodians/Burmese /laos with legal work papers and a L-A visa for thailand, get access to the same health care as Thai's

BUT
he said;
Prime Minister HE today said that Cambodia should be the first country to implement a free first-aid treatment to foreign workers working in the Kingdom.
Free first aid treatment?? Not ALL medical care like Thailand gives its migrant workers
so hardly the first

Note the idea relies on yet another international hand out. No.

I wouldn't be hugely confident about the quality of first aid care you are likely to get either.... :?

To me it sounds like a doctor running his own private health care business would now be required to treat overseas workers for free while charging locals a higher price to make up the shortfall in running costs,,, or would the government refund those costs.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

The endless Cambodian loop. Country with one of the worst medical systems in the world offers to pay for medical treatment of relatively low number of foreign workers, in exchange for Thailand treating a million of their citizens for free. That's the gist of the idea the way I see it.

What exactly does first aid mean though? I'm might be a bad translation or intentionally vague language. Free Band-Aids? Free CPR?

Thailand does NOT treat legal migrant workers for free, they hold a thai medical card ...same as a thai citizen
and has been like this for a long long time

PLUS; i really wonder how many migrant workers from Burma,Laos,Vietnam would choose to work in Cambodia over Thailand
PLUS PLUS; i doubt any thai would choose to work in Camboida rather than at home where they dont do the jobs that the migrant laborers are hired to do :plus1:

That was my whole point. I see it as a rather foolishly optimistic ploy from the PM to get the Thais to accept a totally one-sided deal. They won't. The only ones to benefit would be the Burmese and Cambodians who have tons of workers in Thailand. Why would Thailand accept to treat all those migrant workers for free? Meanwhile, the 5000 Thais residing in Cambodia would get free shitty healthcare... Yeah right. I'm sure they'll agree with to that financial burden in a hurry...
