UPDATE
December 16, 2022
Fake News: Tall tale of ‘2 foreigners hijacking taxi’ never took place
A man, who claimed that 2 foreigners ‘armed with rifles’ hijacked his taxi, has admitted that the entire story was fabricated and that he actually sold the car to pay for debts

Oeun Song initially claimed to be the victim of a robbery perpetrated by two foreigners who rented his car from Siem Reap to Stung Treng,

He stated that the incident took place in Cheb district, Preah Vihear province on the afternoon of December 15, 2022.

The man claimed that a Chinese man and a Thai woman rented a car from Siem Reap to Stung Treng for $ 200.

After agreeing to travel to Prey Toteung in Chhep Keut village, Chhep Muy commune, Chhep district, Preah Vihear province, he stopped the car to refill the water

He then claimed that after refilling the car the fictitious foreign thieves ‘pulled out their rifles’ and forcibly purloined the vehicle.

However, his tale was soon revealed to be nothing more than a web of lies designed to cover up the fact that he had actually sold the taxi to pay for his debts and did not want his family to find out.

Mr. Oeun Sang confirmed to the police that he had sold the car in Siem Reap this morning to pay off his debts.

After the sale, he boarded a taxi from Siem Reap province to Stung Treng province.

Stating the obvious once the car is found with the new owners his plan is stuffed

How did he think he would get away with this nonsense?

It's not clear if he called the cops himself or not.
He may have made up this story to not lose the face in front of his family, without planning that his relatives would then contact the police (and finally making the news !).
