FOR THOSE WHO THINK THAT...

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

General Chatter,
I thank you very much for the valuable info and promise to send a pm in response to yours in the very near future. But thanks for treating my post seriously.

This being the case, you have only the retirement years to deal with. As you can see from the contradictory statements coming from the Department of Immigration, and the Ministry of Labour, the issue of retirees, and those who are not employed would appear to be up in the air.
Until there is definitive information it is probably best to continue with a wait and see approach.
My own situation is somewhat similar to yours and that is what I am doing. :hattip:

Takeoman, I'm still trying to find out if this is retroactive or applies only to teachers currently working there. So, it may or may not help.

Though owning a business, even a small low cost homestay, could be a factor. Modest as its income is, its still not retirement in the legal sense.

Just like in the states where retirees building and selling bird houses and crap but not reporting the income can get in trouble.

My wife owns it lock stock and barrel and the business license is in her n name.I talk about it and have a separate source of income (Social Security) to augment her income. The only work I do is what any responsible husband would do and I receive no salary.

You're absolutely right OD, the law exists for the powerful to interpret it and the powerful to break it with impunity and the victim has no legal recourse as we have seen time and time again in people fighting to keep their homes.
