FOR THOSE WHO THINK THAT...

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

[EDIT] Ahhh now I see where your confusion is coming from....IMMIGRATION VISA. An immigration visa is any visa issued by the department of immigration, whether that be T-Type, E-Type, B-Type, K-Type, etc...Understand now???
Okay, that's a start. Now who can explain what those different types of visa are for? I assume T = tourist and B = business? I have a suspicion that the "immigration visa" referred to by the official is just a 30 day tourist visa. He said "non-working foreigners can live in Cambodia on an immigration visa", but he didn't say "long term" like taabarang and others are desperate to hear. Of course, nobody wants to do border runs every 30 days, but I believe that may be what that hapless minister might have been referring to. I hope I'm wrong.

Well you asked the right question Soi Dog, unfortunately, PSD kiwi has proven himself incapable of remembering his own post let alone explain it. I'm hoping there is someone else here who can clue us in about immigration visas which until today were unknown to me and apparently by Lucky Lucky in a phone conversation that was conducted in Cambodian. All I found out is that Business or Special visas can still be renewed there with no work permit. i may be wrong, but I doubt that a tourist visa and an immigration visa are one and the same. Let's hope anyway and I still want to know what conditions must be met to qualify. It doesn't seem to me that immigration and retirement are at all the same.

and I'm sorry that you couldn't understand what an immigration visa is, even though you are obviously already living in Cambodia on an immigration visa.

Look, to be honest mate, I think you are stressing over this too much at the moment, I hope for you and your families sake that I am not wrong. There are too many conflicting reports, statements, media articles, and social media reports floating around at the moment. If you're really worried then I would suggest that you consult a lawyer specialising in immigration, but I doubt you could afford it by the sounds of it.

Best of luck, and please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

- T-Type (Tourist)
- E-Type (Ordinary/business)
- A-Type (Diplomatic)
- B-Type (Official)

Yes you can, the article you quoted stated that there was a difference between a work visa of which I and others have many and an immigration visa. So, tell us what it is if you really know. Am I stressing? Only over inane posts which pretend to be informative, but really only reveal Jack Shit. So, if you have no clue kiss off. I refuse to be wound up by bullshit. If Lucky Lucky doesn't know, you most likely don't either, MATE.

Did it? Where? There is no work visa, how can you have one?

Can I make it any clearer.....An "Immigration Visa" is ANY visa issued by the MoI....Simple!

It looks like Type, A, B, C and K are not available for the average person. So, taabarang, that only leaves the two visa types we all know about already. Either the E Type (with work permit now required), or the T-Type, which I believe is only 30 days (may be extendable in-country for another 30 days?) The Ministry has yet to address retirees with any special visa class, so might as well stop grasping for that straw. It's a non-starter.

Assuming the poster knows his shit which is an optimistic if not dubious assumption.

Surely if there was another option for those in your situation we all would have heard about it by now. It's not like you are the only retiree with local family responsibilities.

if there is a fine .......pay it
if there is none
