Flood alert and heavy rains for some provinces.

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Don't want to be seen as insensitive cause there are much worse things as flooded roads, but if you're travelling to Kep this weekend, avoid the road to Kampot (nr3) and take the split to road 31. The road between kampot and kep is gone. 31 is good till the split to 33, bit bad there but that's only 10 min or something. The rest of the roads in Kep are fine/amazingly smooth.

I was sent these photos of the Mekong at Kratie, taken from Balcony Guesthouse last week, looking from the riverbank in Kratie town across to Koh Trong Island.

So you can compare - some photos I took in the dry season 2017, from about the same place.

Water pumps sent to Stung Treng and Kratie
August 29, 2018
Prime Minister HE yesterday said the government will provide three water pumps to Stung Treng and Kratie provinces, the hardest hit by recent floods that have now claimed 30 lives.

Mr HE said the Water Resource Ministry is preparing to deploy the pumps to the provinces’ Stung Treng and Kratie citites to help drain floods from the overflowing Mekong river.

Addressing thousands of garment workers in Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district, Mr HE also urged all local authorities to continue helping victims of floods which are still ongoing.
He said that the levels in Mekong river are still rising in Stung Treng, Kratie and Kampong Cham provinces.

Kratie, Cambodia news: Areas in Kratie district close to the Mekong are still on high alert for flooding. Authorities say that, contrary to previous years when seasonal flooding has lasted for a week or two, this year the area has been flooded from early July until the end of August. Unlike previous years, there has been a lot of rice and other farm harvests completely destroyed because of the length of the flooding and the strong water currents this year.

Authorities are warning Kratie residents to take care of their personal safety, and to be vigilant to protect children and old people from snakes and other poisonous animals.

High flood alert is still in place in Kampong Cham, today, the 2 September 2018, despite forecasts of gradually decreasing water levels in the Mekong river.
