Flash flooding in Sihanoukville

Sihanoukville - After strong rains today, some residents of Sihanoukville living in front of Don Bosco Technical School in Sangkat 4, Preah Sihanouk City, were forced to leave their homes because of flash flooding. Local people say the flooding is caused by nearby construction sites blocking drains and preventing the evacuation of rain water. They are increasingly concerned about what the rainy season will bring.

They also say that so far this evening (Jan 29) there has been no contact or offers of assistance from city authorities.

Filling in the swamp area behind the Otres Road near Golden Lion Roundabout will make for an interesting rainy season in downtown Sihanoukville.

This swamp was the natural run off for rain and once its gone lets hope there is an adequate drainage system in place. If not all the Chinese staying at the massive 5 star hotel near by better enjoy waist high water once they step outside their hotel this rainy season.

All the rain in Chinoukville and the water pressure is still down in some areas ! Same in Kampot for pressure I believe, but that can't be attributed to feverish speed construction - yet.

Unseasonable rains bring floods
30 Jan, 2018
Unseasonable weather has wreaked havoc this week, bringing floods to Sihanoukville and Poipet and leaving one dead from a lightning strike in Koh Kong province, officials confirmed yesterday.

Koh Kong’s Sre Ambel district police chief, Mar Ty, said that on Monday afternoon 49-year-old Sing Hoeun, of Kampong Sdam village, was fishing on a boat one kilometre offshore when he was struck by lightning, the third such death so far this year.

Meanwhile, the director of Preah Sihanouk’s provincial information office, Or Saroeun, said that roads and homes in Sihanoukville’s Commune 1 were flooded after a five-hour downpour.

“This flooding is caused from the drainage system in that area being blocked by the waste and mud, however now provincial and local authorities have made an effort to resolve it,” he said.

The end result is the same, whether it gets into the sea by pipe or drain.

If this is same part oft the beach what I saw on 14th/15th, they were moving the pipes already then with caterpillar. And according to those guys who were working there that time, this is not waste water pipe. Just rain water pipe that comes from the paved road behind the beach.

Sihanoukville - A resident at O1 (formerly known as the Old Intercontinental School) has asked for officials of roads and drainage systems to find a way to prevent a landslide in his home when it rains.

According to a provincial official, Chea Vutha, the deputy governor of Sihanoukville, is occupying himself with this case personally.
