Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Finn Arto Rantonen Dies of Suspected Drug-Induced Heart Attack in Phnom Penh Guesthouse

Post by prahocalypse now »

The 42-year-old Finn, ARTO RANTONEN died in Guesthouse Number 10 in Daun Penh. (Is that at or near Lakeside?)

The competent authorities say he died of a drug-induced heart attack.

They say Arto Samuli Rantonen overdosed on meth and paracetamol (acetaminophen).

Arto Rantonen also ran a guesthouse with his wife, called "Cambodia Homestay at Navy," which I would assume is his wife's name and has nothing to do with military navy seamen.

From their Facebook page:

"22.4. Homestay is closing doors. But!!! You still have time to see what life here in rural area is.

Cambodia homestay at Navy welcomes you and of course Yours best traveling mates to our humble home. We are open again 1.10.2018!!!!

You can spend unbelievable week or weekend at our local house 80km (taxi with A/C) from Phnom Penh.
You can see and experience places where not many normal people visit.

And now we have long time waited TUBING on order. And its Defenetly not same what Vang Vieng had.
This is peaceful, calm and relaxin place.

25$/night. Fee encludes: taxi from PP--to our home (at PrekPor) 80km -- PP.
Accommodation, mattress and fan. three meal/day. Vegetarians are also welcome!! Coffee, drinking water, tubing on Mekong's sideriver (max 3people). Maybe buddisth washing ritual is possible arrange.. Blessings the Buddha for future journeys.

They had recently announced that their business would be closed from January 1 to January 13, 2019, so he didn't make it too far through his holiday. RIP.

Here are some better pictures to remember Arto Rantonen by, who looks to have been living in Cambodia since at least 2013:

Definitely looks like a drug overdose, according to the pictures in the Darknet News forum: darknet-cambodia-news/darknet-finn-arto ... 25697.html

It's from the Khmer news story. It's a google translation of this:

"Police of Phnom Penh's Scientific Police investigated the body, claiming that the upper body died of a heart attack caused by drug use. Excessive methamphetamine and acetaminophen were transported to the reservoir at Steung Meanchey pagoda."

Yeah, that seems to be what the drug tests show a positive result for.

Almost as many deaths in 2019 as there have been in days so far, and both were expats not tourists.

The pictures I saw showed drug tests that don't test for specifics only yes/no, namely Abon kits were used. Meth and paracetamol can be a translation error? People who feel they need to inject meth instead of I.e. snorting it usually are not so fat as the corpse (no offence). 90 kg is high for meth unless he's swollen from opiate withdrawal or something. Actually doesnt look much like an IV user.

Hi
A sad topic for my first post.
My partner - friends with his wife - is sure they returned to Cambodia from Finland only yesterday. They had been living there.

Not sure how that tallies with the 'running a guesthouse with his wife' angle, but again, she's adamant that's not the case. The provincial home was too small.

He never struck me as a serious druggie, but I didn't know him well.

RIP

Maybe he was off the drugs in Finland and went back to his previous dosage when he returned to Cambodia and that killed him.
