Re: FBI Opens Office in Cambodia
I can't think of any bad american expats I've met in SEA tbh.
I've met plenty of undesirables, but they'd mostly be brits and a few aussies. A scandinavian. Can't think of any yanks. Met a few and they've all been nice people.

They could simply block convicted 'peados' from travelling abroad, but perhaps they don't have the tech-savvy for that.Ghostwriter wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 2:10 pm Hopefully they will help to catch more f***in peados, from US and else. That would be some progress.
This creates more jobs for buddies, a la NGO-style.

Obama visited here, not sure if Bill or Donald have ever visited.Sir Stephen wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 5:04 pmAre there really that many American criminals here or are they expecting many to come later? The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will set up an office at Cambodia’s national police headquarters to help track down American criminals

they all almost are "bad" americans
pathological hypocrites and meddlers.. always sticking their long noses in the affairs of sovereign nations and acting like the police of the entire planet. when reprimanded or reminded of their rightful position in society, they almost always tend to throw a mega tantrum (starting with that septuagenarian clown in their "white" house).

As a country yes I'd agree with you. As individuals, that's not my experience.ergosemper wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 6:45 pmomg you you... i almost choked on my excellent latte..popping in wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 5:22 pm I can't think of any bad american expats I've met in SEA tbh.

I'll grant you that there are educated americans and uneducated americans. The educated ones I've found to be as pleasant people as you would reasonably hope to encounter. The uneducated ones are admittedly loudmouths who think their americanship makes them in charge of everything, but at least they aren't...you know, gangster types. There's some real low life barangs in SEA, and I've never met an american one. Maybe they exist but I've not met them.
When I lived in Abu Dhabi I remember going to a conference where some young american guy asked a question about "back home", in a way which made it clear that he regarded UAE as just some outpost of the US that he was on a jolly adventure too. So maybe some of the educate ones are jerks too, but I'd take someone like that over a scumbag who treats the local women like they are their personal property, runs the local fight gang etc.

Federal Police have been working out of Australia Embassy for at least a decade, I am also aware of Canadian Police from their Embassy and UK Police from their embassy. They operate a partnership with Cambodia Child Protection. I understand the Australian Police are also based in Thailand for same reason, and in both Thailand and Cambodia target the Rebels motorcycle club.xandreu wrote: ↑Tue Oct 13, 2020 1:29 pm Isn't it a little unusual for a sovereign country to allow another countries law enforcement to set up shop there? I've never heard of it happening anywhere else.
It kind of sends the message of a two-tier legal framework where foreigners here will be policed by US law enforcement agencies and as such, expected to abide by US laws, whereas the locals will continue to be policed by their own.
Strange set-up for a country to have if you ask me. I accept there are many western criminals here, either on the run, committing crimes while here, or both, and that the local police sometimes struggle to track them down, but I'd guess that Chinese criminals are a bigger problem than western ones. Will China also come here to deal with their own?
Will there be a situation where Chinese residents answer to Chinese police, Western residents answer to American police and locals answer to Khmer police?

Led by the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Operation Kungur involves about 20 agencies from Asia, North America and Europe. It is by far the biggest ever international effort to combat Asian drug-trafficking syndicates, say law enforcement agents involved in the investigation. It encompasses authorities from Myanmar, China, Thailand, Japan, the United States and Canada. Taiwan, while not formally part of the operation, is assisting in the investigation.
