Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Cambodia News (Phnom Penh): In a tragic accident on June 14, 2021, Chum Sarn, a 31-year-old man, a construction worker living at #6A6, St. 80, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh, was electrocuted to death after attempting to save his 13-year-old daughter, Sorn Sreylin, who suffered a serious electric shock while she was taking in the laundry from the balcony near an electric pole.

According to an eye-witness, the man told his daughter to collect the laundry from the balcony on the second floor, but somehow, some of the dried clothes fell onto the zinc roof of the first floor. But when the girl went to take them off the roof she received a severe electric shock. Out of curiosity why the daughter took so long to do the chore, the father went to check and found her being electrocuted and then jumped on to the roof without any protection to save the girl, causing both father and daughter to be electrocuted.
The two were rescued and sent to a nearby hospital in a tuktuk, but unfortunately, the man was already dead and the daughter was seriously injured.
The man was sent back to the family for the funeral after the autopsy. RIP.

Silence, exile, and cunning.

Yes, I'm always aware of avoiding live wires on the street etc, but who would have thought that a roof could electrocute you ?
That poor family. And who is held responsible in a case like this ?
Spoiler:
Nobody I guess. It's just "bad luck". :(

At least it's an honorable way to die and he'll always be remembered as a hero of sorts. Not sure if the same can be said for most of the rest of us.
