Fatal Tuk-Tuk Crash Kills Two Finnish Passengers & Cambodian Driver in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Breaking news from Cambodia can be found here. CEO often finds Khmer news and translates it into English for our readers if it is interesting to expats, locals, Cambodians living abroad and anyone who wants to stay informed of the latest local and international news stories about Cambodia and our neighbors in South East Asia. There are many sources for Khmer news articles and they can all be found here in one place. Most of the media comes out of Phnom Penh, Siem Reap or Sihanoukville, but we cover national Cambodian news from all provinces.

ARTUU JOHANNES HIETA and LASSE MIKAEL APAJASALMI must both be expats living in Thailand, as they both have Thai driving licenses.

RIP.

Just because someone has a nice car doesnt make them a good driver.
I wouldn't exactly call a Lexie 330 a nice car but there are studies to be done here; the bigger the Lexus; the shittier the driving.
It seems to be the most popular vehicle of choice for people with no driving skills, no situational awareness, or a general contempt for any other road or pavement* user.

LASSE is definitely a Finnish expat living in Bangkok, Thailand.

From Lasse Apajasalmi's LinkedIn:

'I’m a sales and marketing professional who enjoys business, economics and politics. I have a strong educational and practical knowledge of e-commerce and Asian business. I am keen to learn new things about using consumer voice for creative solutions in a global business environment.

One of my most distinguishing characteristics is the diversity of experiences I possess. Through my
experiences in a wide range of different communities (e.g. in the military and on the Finnish national high school basketball team), I was able to develop good interpersonal and communication skills. I’m a team player with the ability to lead.

How can you grin or pose for the camera like that after killing people? He should be shitting himself. Life long sentence, is the only option in my eyes.

The face of impunity.

And now the whole wretched thing disappears into oblivion.
Zero journalistic follow up.

He is still under the influence in that photo. When he sobers up and the reality of a prison term sets in, he will not have that grin on.

We have a lot of readers online from Finland today, so this tragic news has clearly made it across the oceans.

-------------------

The tuk-tuk driver's family will be paid off.

With no Finnish embassy in Cambodia there will be little to no political pressure to punish the guy. So if his father is connected enough, its likely he gets a slap on the wrist - pays a fine (to the right people) and he'll be driving again in 9 months.
